A much requested feature from our readers is the ability to show images IN comments. Previously readers had to leave a link to their photo sharing site page but now you also have the option to embed an image into a comment. You can see this feature in action in the comments section of our last weekend photography Challenge.
To embed an image into a comment look for the line that says ‘You can add images to your comment by clicking here’ underneath the comments fields at the bottom of our posts. It looks like this:
Click the link and a little popup window opens up where you can submit a URL of an image. Please note – the URL that this needs is not a flickr page where is shown along with commments but the actual url of the image.
For example – don’t put a URL like http://www.flickr.com/photos/darrenrowse/3649154608/ but instead put one like http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3338/3649154608_4e8bdac973.jpg.
To find the URL right click on an image and select ‘view image’ or ‘copy image location’ and you’ll find the URL that we can use.
Want to give it a go? Feel free to share an image in comments below.
Please note: comments are often moderated so may not always appear immediately. Please also keep images to a ‘family friendly’ standard – no nudity please in this public forum.
UPDATE: Working in conjunction with Flickr we’ve now tweaked this feature so that you can get your picture in by doing one of two things:
1. post the picture’s actual URL
2. post the flickr page URL that the picture is on
We’re also now able to authomatically link the FLickr pictures embedded back to your Flickr page which hopefully will send a little traffic your way and which makes us compliant with Flickr’s TOS. This happens auto-magically with the help of Flickr’s API
