Are You a Binge Photographer… or a Snack Photographer?

Are You a Binge Photographer… or a Snack Photographer?

We had a great discussion last week on our Facebook page about this so I thought I’d ask the question here on the blog too:

Is your photography done in sporadic bursts or are you a steady shooter?

I’m not talking about when you’re on a shoot and shooting fast – I mean do you do no photography for days or even weeks and then go through a burst of heaps of it in a day (a Binge Photographer of sorts) – or are you the type of photographer who shoots a few photos every day (a Snack Photographer)?

Or do you have another pattern?

I am a binge photographer but I do it in a planned and organized manner. I do visualize, frame and compose pictures everyday but leave them unrecorded and one day I get them executed in a row. Strange habit !

  • USAMA ALI April 3, 2012 07:18 pm

well i must say im a binge photographer. and the reason may be that i don't have a camera . but when i borrow it from someone i become THE OTHER TYPE

  • Betty March 6, 2012 05:24 am

I'm a little of both, I suppose. I keep my camera handy just in case a cloud or one of my cats beckons, but I can go for days without a shutter click if "real life" keeps me too busy. When the camera makes it outdoors the sky is the limit-literally!

    Binge Photographer

  • lesmen27 March 3, 2012 09:12 pm

During the winterseason I am shooting every day during my daily skitours in the French Alps. When the weather is nice the colours are blue and white. On bad days grey. I publish these pictures at Flickr :

    I am both!
With my 366 project, I make sure to at least do one little picture snack a day, but when I get to go out and explore the world, I go on a crazy happy photo binge and take tons of pictures!
    See what i mean at

In Vermont, just south of Quebec border Arturomar.

  • murr March 3, 2012 09:06 am

In warm months I binge snack. Winter months I peck a photo here and there. Looking forward to the warm again. I have a new lens I want to put to work outside.

  • Arturomar March 3, 2012 07:27 am

Hi John (comment above), can you tell where do you live?

  • John March 3, 2012 12:54 am

I guess I am both as well. It's very cold where I am, and the winters are long. Now that my excuse is I shoot weekly at least, but if the snow isn't pretty then I am inside. However during the rest of the year I am a snacker for sure, shooting a minimum of 4 times a week.

  • Pavol Timko March 2, 2012 07:30 pm

I am rather snack photographer although it is only a hobby and there may be times when I am completely off. But in between I learned to have my camera with me and tripod in my car and I am quite amazed how many opportunities there are in every day life.

  • Erika March 2, 2012 06:41 pm

definitely a snack photographer! :) There's almost not a day when I don't take a photo at all.

  • John Jessup March 2, 2012 06:18 pm

If I'm back from work before sunset and the light is good I will always go for it.

  • John March 2, 2012 02:41 pm

I find its best to shoot on schedule as of you were lets say going to the gym. Regular practice makes perfect and you get to "know" your equipment and to set your camera up almost by instinct.

  • Julie Cortens March 2, 2012 02:05 pm

Snack - the camera is out every day without fail. Some days that snack is a binge. I think I might go into withdrawal if I didn't hold my camera every day, or a couple of times a day. It can be in my hands for hours. Love it! And I have a day job too. Sign up for a 365 project and you will pick it up every day.

  • Darla March 2, 2012 01:22 pm

Sadly, I'm a binger. I work full time and up to 60-70 hours a week depending on the time of year. I'm often just to wore out to move. BUT most times, I just pull up my big girl panties and grab the camera and head out to the pasture or around the area just to use the camera.

  • Aquamarina March 2, 2012 08:10 am

Snack photographer because I'm doing a 365 project. I may only take half a dozen photographs on one day and many dozens on another. But I try to make sure I've got my point-and-shoot with me all the time.

  • Marco March 2, 2012 07:59 am

Actually both. Since I shoot wildlife action shots it is often rough to get out in the winter months or rainy seasons. This can lead to weeks without shooting. But when the weather is cooperating, I am out three or four days a week shooting tons of shots. Like today we finally had good enough weather to risk a two hour drive before daybreak to get where I needed to be and I shot hundreds of shots in bursts. The first quick run through looks like about 50-70 keepers. Not bad for a morning. I also got several fur bearers as well as seasonal birds. White pelicans, hawks, many kinds of ducks and found an eagle on the nest with eggs I suspect since she did not move while I set up the tripod. I also got my first good shot of a mink, a nice shot of a raccoon, and not sure but should be a decent shot of a beaver just before diving. My last two trips were marginal weather and I got zero keepers. So today was great!!!

  • Jason March 2, 2012 07:56 am

Definitely a binge photographer in a major way. I'm almost exclusively a landscape photographer. I'm located in the Pacific Northwest and rarely pick up my camera from November to April because the weather precludes easy back country travel. From May to October however it's a different story entirely. I'll shoot about 450 images every weekend for 20-25 straight weeks. In fact, it's March 2012 and I am *still* post-processing photographs from 2011. I have about 3 more weekends of shots to make it through.

  • Andrew Turner March 2, 2012 07:24 am

I guess I'm in between. There are times when I take my camera everywhere and other times when it stays at home.....perhaps I should have stayed home too sometimes me thinks!
As a member of the local camera club I try to go on as many "field" trips as possible and these are normally in line with next month's competition set subjects, so one gets as many shots as possible or one takes a few really classy shots, paying attention to setting the camera correctly and with all aspects covered....there's so much to remember!!!

  • Delmar March 2, 2012 05:32 am

I'm a steady shooter, I take my camera everywhere I go, like a woman packs her purse. When I retired I wanted something to keep me busy and photography does that for me. I've taken some lessons, read a lot of books and have traveled quite a bit for photos. It's now a passion of mine.

  • Sean March 2, 2012 04:15 am

I'm a steady binger. I photo or two every day, then a flurry when i get the time.

  • Nezih March 2, 2012 04:05 am

I'm a regular shooter. I make short trips every weekend for shooting, and during the week days I shoot if there's anything around worth shoting.

  • Miriam March 2, 2012 03:57 am

Unfortunately, my life's circumstances had me become a binge photographer... Would love to "snack" again, like I once did. Photography is my "medicine".

  • Carrie Flower March 2, 2012 03:29 am

I take photos every day on my phone and post something nearly every day on my blog:

I use my slr if I go on holiday or a day trip and the best make it on my Flickr:

So a bit of both really

  • PhotoSara March 2, 2012 03:20 am

Snacker, although more like "steady eater". I carry a tiny camera everywhere, so if I see a good composition I don't miss out, but every two or three days I'm out and about even for short periods with a DSLR

  • Kevin Peden March 2, 2012 03:17 am

Binge / snack Photographer - now! As I am retired (EARLY RETIREMENT) I have been a snack photographer by way of a 365 project, however, because I live on Dartmoor, Devon,UK., I tended to walk for many miles over the moors every day in all weathers, and this was taking up at least 6 hours of my day rather than 3-4 hours it takes without stopping for a photograph, and that didn't leave much time for anything else as well as being knackered by the time I was getting home. I have cut my photography down to 3 days a week max., which has also made the boss (wife) very happy to! To be honest, I also found it difficult to sustain worthwhile images every day as the weather/lighting conditions here on Dartmoor, are more often than not, rubbish!

  • Tavo March 2, 2012 03:05 am

And my father use to told me. "If you have a camera, alway try to carry it with you."

  • Tavo March 2, 2012 03:02 am

Snack photographer definitly. I like to take a shoot of a photo per day. Perhaps my photos are really bad, sometimes people try to kill me, cause I took a photo of them.

  • Lynn March 2, 2012 02:53 am

Binge. Life gets in the way. If I never took another picture again I have enought images to work on for the rest of my life anyway. ha ha

  • Nicky March 2, 2012 02:39 am

I'm a binge photographer at the moment with aspirations of becoming a snacker.
Often I find that when I have great ideas, energy or inspiration I am already committed to other things. When I have the time time then the energy and inspiration are missing...

I was reading about one photographer who decided (a few years ago) to take one picture every single day of the year. Not magnificent landscapes (unless that's where they happened to be) just everyday images from around house and home, friends and family. They weren't just snaps though, they were considered images, everyday things viewed with a more creative eye.

I think about setting that challenge for myself...1 picture everyday for 365 days - without the self-imposed pressure of finding that amazing landscape image in the middle of a flat county! :-)

  • Melissa February 29, 2012 07:26 pm

Mine is more sporadic bursts. I tend to take a lot of photos and then do a lot of drawing/painting.

  • ShaneH February 29, 2012 05:45 pm

Unfortunately I'm a binge photographer. I would like to have the time to get out and work on my skills as I feel they are seriously lacking.

  • Natalie February 29, 2012 03:41 pm

unfortuantely i am a binge photographer. Working full-time and other commitments does not provide me with the time i would like to get out and take more photos. I have started using my camera for some work projects though.

  • David February 29, 2012 11:06 am

Both...tried 365 web site last year useful but got a little too challenging as my life style and work is a rolling event.

  • The Guig February 28, 2012 11:08 pm

I shoot frequently but keep deleting them all. I think I may have a photography disorder...

  • susan February 28, 2012 04:54 pm

probably more of a Binge Photographer, but that's mostly because work and school take up most of my time. my cell phone "photography" is pretty steady, but that in not any serious photography!

  • Luke February 28, 2012 02:22 pm

I'm definitely a binge photographer. I'll take a bunch of photos, then get caught up with life and I don't take any for a few weeks.

  • Erin @ Pixel Tips February 28, 2012 12:29 pm

This depends entirely on the time of year, and how burned out I am on my professional work. Sometimes I NEED to make myself shoot a few personal photos per day to break up the monotony of my professional work (I know, I know, not good when pro work becomes monotonous - but don't we all suffer from those phases?)

  • Average Joe February 28, 2012 12:08 pm

Hmm. Well for now as a student, I'd say snack because there's not a whole lot of downtime at home when I CAN take pictures every day. But I do take pictures with my phone pretty often if that counts.

  • Norman Schrock February 28, 2012 09:37 am

I shoot several times a week due to my teaching a photography class at my high school, but for myself once or twice a week. With my iPhone almost every day.

  • Joel February 28, 2012 08:10 am

I am a workflow shooter. I take pictures, process, write blog posts, and output to sites or to print. That workflow can occur in one day or over many days depending upon what is going on at work and with family. I don't like to get a bunch of images stuck at anyone spot in the workflow because then they only live on my computer. The result of this is that sometimes I am a binge shooter and sometimes I am a snack shooter depending upon where I am in the workflow.

  • Dave Hancock February 28, 2012 07:27 am

Binge for sure! Wish I wasn't but that is what I have become. Life is busy and if I shoot a lot, it takes even more of my time to import, sort, develop and publish my stuff. Generally, I look forward to events to shoot.

  • Anna February 28, 2012 06:26 am

A binge by nature but under strict snacking regime with my 365 days project at the moment ^^

  • Wil C. Fry February 28, 2012 05:03 am

Both. Same as how I eat.

I'm always snacking (take photos every day), but occasionally binge with huge amounts.

  • Marcus Davis February 28, 2012 04:26 am

I would say I'm probably a binge snacker. lol I can't say I go out shooting EVERY day, but my camera has no dust on it.

I try to get out at least 3 - 4 times a week to go shooting. I've found that this really helps with my photographic eye. I've gotten better about scouting locations in my everyday driving so that I don't have to waste gas looking for new places to shoot.

  • Almon February 28, 2012 03:33 am

Binge Photog. I mosty shoot when there is something going on, Party, Event, etc. I do practice, but not on a regular basis like I should.

  • JanN February 28, 2012 03:32 am

Currently on 'weekends only' binge :)

  • Peter Kingsbury February 28, 2012 02:25 am

Winter: binge. Summer: more snack, less binge. My 9-5 (office) job (and its associated routine) doesn't permit me to "get out" to shoot photos until 5pm-ish each day. In (Canadian) winter, this makes shooting impossible during the day, as I'm stuck indoors. It also makes shooting after work very difficult, as sundown has usually struck well before I could possibly get anywhere interesting to shoot.

During summer is a different story, however; I try to get out as much as possible between those few precious hours of post-work and sundown.

Weekends, of course, regardless of time of year, are a great binge time. :)

  • Calvin February 28, 2012 01:25 am

Binge! oh no, gotta do something about it!

  • Kathy Burkman February 28, 2012 01:09 am

I either snack or graze, depending on the day. M-F, I can only get a bit in after 5. But on the weekend, I leave my camera out so I can shoot anything that catches my eye.

  • Hugh Stickney February 28, 2012 01:08 am

A snacker who will binge in certain circumstances (new location, travel). Definitely a snacking editor!

  • Aparna February 28, 2012 12:53 am

I'm more of a snack photographer, but I have these phases when I do not take a single photograph for a few days mostly because I'm busy with other stuff.
At those times I go off on a bit of a binge! :)

  • Kathy Detweiler February 28, 2012 12:42 am

Snacker. I try to shoot several days a week. Not to difficult to do, since I have a bay window I can shoot birds from and where we live in PA is so photogenic.

  • Clare February 28, 2012 12:28 am

I'm a snacker during the week, and then I binge on days off from work... I have what I refer to as handbag cam... this goes everywhere with me and I try to use it each day to find something interesting to photograph... I then have my DSLR which I take when I know I'm going to be outand about in binge mode... I've also been doign a 365 through Blipfoto : )

  • ArianaMurphy February 28, 2012 12:07 am

I was a binger, but I forced myself to take photography more seriously by taking on a 365. So far I haven't missed a single day! I've learned a lot, improved my skills, and now I know what I need to learn next - LIGHTING.

  • Claudia February 27, 2012 11:56 pm

I'm a snacker ... I have withdrawal if I don't feed the snacker within me everyday.

  • PK February 27, 2012 11:37 pm

Very light binge shooter - I tend to only shoot when I am on holidays or at a special event. I rarely get a chance to shoot at any other times - even though I carry my primary and secondary cameras with me at all times. I too am one of those who doesn't just take photos for the sake of taking photos...

  • Iris February 27, 2012 11:08 pm

I try to photograph one photo a day. Do they all come out the way I envisioned; no, but daily photographing helps me to get better.

  • Bharat February 27, 2012 10:50 pm

I'm definitely a snack photographer. I usually take pictures with my cameraphone. I post pictures on my blog regularly.

  • Peter February 27, 2012 10:33 pm

    I'm neither.
I take photographs when I have something I want to photograph, but I don't go over the top, and I don't take photos just for the sake of taking photos, unless I'm testing a piece of equipment or trying a new technique.

  • Jaina February 27, 2012 08:14 pm

These days I'm more of a binger. The 9-5 job runs me down, so the evenings are just spent doing nothing other than relaxing or exercising. I'm trying to be less of a binger, but it's tough to get the motivation these days.

  • Sariah Rose February 27, 2012 07:50 pm

I would have to agree with "Ccting", binge with steady learning :) it's getting out the front door that I have a hard time with- but once I do, I shoot everything I see!

  • Steve McDonagh February 27, 2012 07:43 pm

Binge binge binge. It's like this: I have a total of four blogs two are mainely text two are mainly photo's. Sometimes I like to write, while other time I like to shoot. Having said that I do look at my world more carefully, in case there is a picture to be taken; I learned that here trough this blog.

My blogs: (Text) (Photo) (more text) (more photo)

  • Paolo Saway February 27, 2012 07:20 pm

I would say that I'm a Snack Photographer, because I can't go a day without having to take even a few pictures from my DSLR. I also think I'm kinda addicted to taking photos. Lol

  • Fuzzypig February 27, 2012 07:10 pm

Neither really. I always shoot at weekends without fail. I try to carry a point'n'shoot or a mobilephone and always try to shoot some shots on a least three days a week to keep my eye in.

Binging and snacking on photography leads to highs and lows, as it does with eating. You get none of the benefits of steady moderation and all the detriments of a poor "diet" of misplaced and poorly executed ideas that don't get full attention or enjoy full exploration.

  • sqryn February 27, 2012 06:58 pm

Binge photographer. I like to improvise and I do not have time to prepare and set up a shooting set.
I do it as a hobby so maybe later I will change to snacks if my skills will improve

  • Ash Silva February 27, 2012 06:18 pm

I'm a binger, but I get really restless when I don't shoot for too long (because of work and whatnot) and force myself to get out there and take some photos. I love getting out there with my camera and taking photos - making ample time for it is the main issue unfortunately.

  • Missy February 27, 2012 05:01 pm

I just got a new camera (the best one that I have ever had!!) and I love it so much that I don't carry a purse anymore. I transplanted my wallet and lipgloss to my camera bag, so I have been a steady snacker ever since. My facebook albums are getting huge!!

  • Karol February 27, 2012 04:11 pm

Definitely a binge photographer, not sure why that is. Rarely take pictures once the weather turns cold, but once spring and summer arrive I'm back into it. Still not an everyday shooter, but if I have the camera out, I'm shooting everything I can.

  • ThinkAnarchy February 27, 2012 04:11 pm

I'm a new Binge photographer. I'm just getting into this hobby, and only go out to take pictures when I have the time. When I do decide to go out to shoot, it's usually a 3-8 hour process, typically with a few bar stops throughout the day.

Or I will just notice something in my apartment and fiddle around with the settings on my camera to try and learn through trial and error what settings are best for certain situations.

  • JohnP February 27, 2012 03:34 pm

Binge... but hoping to fix that by getting a small but good quality take everywhere camera - not sure what to get yet though.

  • Casey February 27, 2012 03:23 pm

Snack photographer, easily. I've gotten into the habit of taking my camera everywhere I go, which is awesome. I don't have that disappointed feeling that I missed a shot because I should've brought my camera.

Now, I only have that disappointed feeling when I decide not to take the shot!

  • Muhammad Amirul February 27, 2012 03:07 pm

I'm a snack photographer. Every single day, I'll snap a few photos :D Oh ya, I'm a beginner.

  • John February 27, 2012 03:03 pm

Sadly, a Binge photographer....I only get my urge to shoot once in a while....which may be a couple of days to weeks....

Could be also due to work.. By the time the work day is over, just felt too tired to continue shooting..

  • Chris February 27, 2012 02:44 pm

A snacker, I'm into the "a photo a day" project so I bring my camera everyday. :)

  • Alexis February 27, 2012 02:27 pm

Definitely a binge photographer. Though I truly want to be a consistent snacker! When I have been able to shoot a few days (at least) every week, I've noticed my photos improve greatly. Sad that 9-5 jobs can have such an impact on that. Though glad I'm not the only one fighting with this.

  • raghavendra February 27, 2012 02:06 pm

photography is a part of my daily life

  • James February 27, 2012 01:11 pm

Before I started a 365 project, I was a bit of a binge shooter. I would shoot a quite a bit most weekends, but sometimes go weeks without even taking the lens cap off.

But for the past 60 days, I've shot, edited, converted to jpeg, shrunk, and posted to G+ and my blog at least one photo every single day.

    Good times.

  • Clicknlearn February 27, 2012 12:37 pm

I'd say mix. I almost exclusively shoot pictures of my 3 month twin girls. Some days are really hectic with them. Trying new things like off-camera flash etc

  • janys February 27, 2012 12:16 pm

steady, once a week....lead a photo walk on the ranch where i work. i get out more if i can. now that the desert wildflowers are blooming, i will try to get out more.

  • Robert February 27, 2012 12:12 pm

As a working father it's a bit of both depending on how busy my day job and home life are. When I can relax and just be myself I'll usually fill an 8GB CF card or two per day.

  • bill February 27, 2012 11:41 am

Binge but slowly becoming a snack shooter. I have forced myself to find a different location daily to shoots sports/action much fun!

  • Rick February 27, 2012 11:30 am

I would love to be a snacker. I get out as often as I can, or as often as weather permits, which isn't nearly often enough these days.

  • Julie Betts February 27, 2012 11:22 am

II like what ccting said, though...."a steady learner" indeed!!!!

  • Julie Betts February 27, 2012 11:21 am

I'm a "snack photographer" fact, I'm one who believes in not leaving home without my camera.... ;)

  • ccting February 27, 2012 10:43 am

    i'm a Binge hobbist but i'm a steady learner

  • Nimish February 27, 2012 10:35 am

Depends on whether or not I'm in school or on break. During school, I'll binge on every other weekend or so and take lots of shots. Over breaks I'm much better about pacing it out, and am more consistent. Oddly enough I get about the same photos/day numbers in the end.

  • NCS February 27, 2012 10:23 am

    Unfortunatly a binge photographer...

When I get the time I'll use it as much as I can.

Last time I got the possibility to fly to Venice for the carnival. That was a great experience. If you'd like to see some of the photo, here is the link:

  • Jeff E Jensen February 27, 2012 09:44 am

Definitely a snacker, though some days the snacking can be pretty heavy :o)

  • Sean February 27, 2012 09:31 am

Sadly a binge photographer, I go and shoot every day for like 2 weeks and then I won't for another two.

  • Isoterica February 27, 2012 09:16 am

I used to be a snacker and now I am a binger. Whatever reasons come along, sometimes I just don't shoot but it used to be every day. I am probably getting rusty as I post this. Yeah see some little rust flakes just fell off.

  • hubblefromthesun February 27, 2012 09:03 am

I was doing a 365 but I was filling in for the days that I didn't spend much time. Whether you shoot every day or every few days, as long as you are consist, you will get better. At the very least I have more images that provide me feedback and allows me to see patterns in the way I shoot, problems I always have, or what needs to be worked on.

  • Ross February 27, 2012 08:45 am

I'm more of a binge photographer overall, although it does go through phases. My work life can play havoc at times and leave little room for much else.

I've set myself a New Years resolution this year though that I'm going to get out for a good few hours every Sunday and just shoot whatever takes my fancy, no pressure. :)

Is a heavy shoot once a week binging or snacking? I can't make my mind up. :)

  • Hugh W February 27, 2012 08:04 am

"Binge"... Although I do not shoot a lot of photos on each "binge" I guess I'm more selective rather than shooting everything that moves, or doesn't move :)

On another note... how about a G+ page for those of us that have forsaken FB for something better :)

  • Connor February 27, 2012 07:45 am

Definitely binge, I need more inspiration...

  • Molly February 27, 2012 07:28 am

If using my phone counts I snack. If it is limited to SLR shooting, then binge...

Generally I'd have to say binge too, although lately I've been getting out every week or so, which I'm enjoying. At any time though, it could go back to every few months.

Either way, when I do get out, I end up taking a ton of shots.

I would say I'm a snack photographer that binges every now and then. I tried to take photos of something every few days and sometimes I will just go for a walk and take hundreds of photos. It all just depends.

I am kind of a combination I think. I'm a snacker in that I take photo's everyday as part of my ongoing personal projects. I'm a binger in that some days I only take one or two and others I could take dozens or occasionally hundreds.

I take photos once a week for my blog, just for the fun of it.. but I try to make them good - well, decent for an amateur with a 5mp cannon camera anyway :)

Binge, though I wish I would snack more often. Like Jim said (above), it can be tough with other things going on in your life.

  • Scottc February 27, 2012 06:35 am

Definitely binge, though a matter of circumstance rather than what I'd like to do.

    Works out sometimes, though.....

I am a heavy snacker...I shoot everyday. I work part-time so I am home early leaving me with several hours of daylight to get out in the backyard. On days it's raining I down in my rec=room shooting in my lightbox. Oh did I mention I've been diagnosed with the photo addiction. Not a problem for me to take 100 shots a day.

A mix, but for different things. At home, I try to take a set of shots of my little one (8 months old) every day, so that has me always looking for new ways to work with light and framing and what she's doing to keep each shot that little bit different.

But outside of the home, it is a binge thing, with nothing for weeks until I have a weekend event of some type (like a charity pirate feast last night) to work with. With the kid (and the lousy winter === no snow in DC worth speaking of), I've not done much outside in a few months, but hope to get to Shenandoah NP in the spring.

I would have to say A Snacker - it kills me when I cannot shoot for more than a week!

  • MikeC366 February 27, 2012 06:24 am

Binge unfortunately. I suffer from depression so find it hard to get out at times. People say it doesn't effect my shots that I do take however.

It's hard to get out during the week when you work 8-5 and have a family to tend to. I do get out just about every weekend though. I do a lot of urbex and long exposure architecture the latter requires fast moving clouds which are also pretty sporadic.

I'd get out more often if I could. I did go out with a group of friend this morning for a sunrise shoot at a park near the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit. Was the scariest shoot I've ever had. Lets just put it this way, we werent the only ones shooting in the park but we were the only ones shooting with cameras.

I am a binge photographer unfortunately but try to keep abreast of the latest techniques online.I do weddings on certain weekends work full-time.

  • AnnaRaine February 27, 2012 05:51 am

Bing Photographer, because I never have the time daily to go out shooting, or even shoot in my own home, extra time is just not there, but i wish i good take photos more often. I hate it a lot, there's days were throught the day I'll be thinking of great shots I can do, like the locations and angels, but then I just never have the time to go and take the photos. :(

Snack photographer. Practice is key, and even if It's just with a cellphone I feel the need to always be thinking of things in terms of composition and story.
