This Week in the Digital Photography School Forums

1151771468 39F62340EbLast week we reached 5,500 members in the forum, and this week reached 50,000 posts! That’s a lot of photographs, advice, questions and fun. So if you haven’t done so yet, drop by the forums and say hi. Now on to this week’s highlights.

This week the sybren for his black and white picture of the two birds on a line (left). We felt that the simple, noir look was really effective, and really captured the idea of “seeing double”.

Our runners up were Susan for her picture of her evil twin locking her out of the house (below), and wrath1 for his picture of the two spiders that were enough to almost make us run screaming (below).

This week also brought a new assignment, and it is Breaking the Rules, which was inspired by the posts on the blog about the topic. You can post pictures taken any time, but in order to be eligible for the mini-contest, they need to be taken between 22 August – 4 September 2007, and they need to have “Assignment:Breaking the Rules” somewhere in the post. So go on, break some rules and come participate in the assignment. Next week’s assignment will be Fruit and Veg. You’re supposed to eat 5 a day of them, so that should give everyone plenty of opportunities to stop and take a shot.

Weekly Poll

This week was an interesting question. We asked if people had a photographic inspiration. The results were pretty even, and some people even shared who their inspirations were.

jiminyClickit said “I have been inspired by every photograph I’ve ever seen, from Life magazine and National Geographic as a child, to today’s flood of everything/everywhere.”

And ameresa shared with us two of her local photographers (Larry Turner and John Neipp).

And others didn’t feel like they needed an outside inspiration at all, because as velvet4269 said, “I enjoy looking at other peoples images, but I think I’m my own inspiration – I’m constantly striving to do better and to get more out of my pictures; there wasn’t one “I wonder if I can get pictures like that” moment, it was more of a just pick up the camera and go.”

This week, drop by the forums and vote on another hot topic in digital photography, Photoshop: Cheating or Not? Which should be up in the next day or so.
