Weekly Assignment

DPS Assignment: Still Life-FlowersFlowers are gorgeous. We love to photograph them. But creating a good photograph of a flower can be challenging. Which is why our most recently finished assignment was blacksquiggle floral art. How neat is this shot? It has all the elements of a classic still life flower painting, but the way that the petals and leaves fall out of the frame makes it all the more dynamic. In this one, the typical elements of a still life (especially the frame) really helped to create a very nice overall image. Well done everyone!

It doesn’t matter if it’s summer or winter by you, there’s always something that you can show in relation to the weather. Some parts of the world are struggling through massive weather crises, while others may be sailing through the season. We want you to show us the weather outside by you. As always, a quick reminder of the rules. First, your photo must have been taken between 2 – 16 February 2011. Second, your post must include the words “Assignment: The Weather Outside” and the date that the photo was taken to show that you both want it included in the mini-contest and that it is eligible. Finally, your EXIF should be intact, and it’s useful if you can include some of the main points such as camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc. Next week we will start a new assignment, and we want you to Recreate the Masters. What we want you to do is to choose any famous artwork, and interpret it and recreate it with your own photograph. Start by looking at some well known pieces of art, and remember to keep a close eye on lighting, composition, and colour work in the original because it will make a big difference to your finished product. Good luck everyone!
