Weekly Assignment

We finished up our Sadness assignment this week. There were many different ways to show sadness, and here we’ll highlight our three favourites from the week.

Our winner this week was courtney23cy‘s “The Memory”. This was quite a poignant shot. It brings an almost immediate feeling of sadness when you view it.

Our first runner up was nico_loss‘ “Headstone in Forest.” Here there are bright colours that would typically be seen in a happy photograph, but they’re in a sad context. The composition really draws you into a scene that speaks clearly of loss.

And last, but not least is nm1085‘s Sadness. This little girl looks so clearly sad, and the black and white really helps contribute to the melancholy feeling of it.

Landscapes (Foregrounds) is our latest assignment. This is one of our return to basics assignments since they are something that we can often forget when capturing a moment. Our assignment this week focuses on landscapes, in particular, landscapes with a foreground element. As always, a quick reminder of the rules. First, your photo must have been taken between 18 May – 1 June 2011. Second, your post must include the words “Landscapes (Foregrounds)” and the date the photo was taken. Finally, your EXIF should be intact, and it’s helpful if you can include some of the main details such as camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.

Next week’s assignment will be Framing. If you’re unsure what we’re talking about, see the first post of the Landscapes (Foregrounds) thread on the forums.
