MOTION: Weekend Photography Challenge

MOTION: Weekend Photography Challenge

This weekend your photographic challenge is to take a picture on the theme of ‘Motion’ (theme suggested to our Twitter Account by @DoubleConvex).

We’ve written a number of tutorials that might be helpful in this (although you’re free to interpret the theme in other ways) including at:

Once you’ve taken your “Motion” image, upload it to your favourite photo sharing site and either share a link to it below or embed it in the comments using the our new tool to do so.

If you tag your photo on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag it as #DPSMOTION to help others find it. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

Here's my 3rd attempt at adding a shot. Doesn't look like embedding images works?

  • Kyle Gibson April 10, 2010 05:24 pm

Here's mine! Have a good weekend!

  • Ste_95 April 10, 2010 05:13 pm

Using the image tool I couldn't add my shot. Here is the link:

I'm not sure why this webpage hasn't accepted my addition, but here's one more try.

I tried a few combinations of shutter and aperture. This was about four seconds.

  • Andrew Stewart April 10, 2010 02:27 pm

Not sure if this will work. Heres mine.

Hope this works.. Here is mine. DISNEYLAND ROLLERCOASTER

I think that this shows motion. Though frozen, it's a DIPTYCH, so the action continues in the second shot.
    Hope you like it :)

This photo shows the insect thats "motion blurred" so you see the path of the insect from hitting the candle's fire and buzzing around after..

I tried several combinations of shutter and aperture. This one was four seconds.[eimg link='' title='ChiuDynasty' url='']

You want to know something funny? Yesterday I took this picture and today I find about this contest through Twitter.

  • yt April 10, 2010 11:20 am

I enjoy the articles and people's responses. This image is not my attempt in response to this article, but I used the motion to express the mood. Relatively satisfied with the result and 'oil painting like' texture it created just as I envisioned.

I'll find time to shoot some motion over the weekend :)

  • Dustin April 10, 2010 09:27 am

I think my previous attempt didn work, so here it is again.

I've been working on shooting local surfing blurred. I usually shoot in the evening, because evening sessions and the backlit waves look great, but I hope to get up early enough to get some dawn patrol shots soon. I love the look of it so far, although some people I've showed it to (my mom, haha) don't "get it". Oh well.

So I'm going to try to embed the photo, but if it doesn't work, here's the link to my flickr:

Blur photography is always a lot fun. It does require a certain level of patience. No two blur photos have the same settings - so definitely experiment with your settings and exercise patience. Go for it & enjoy!
