JUMP: New Forum Assignment

This week’s Assignment theme is JUMP. It reminded me of this image that always made me chuckle. While perhaps not technically perfect it sure captured a moment (and that’s a big part of what photography is all about):

  • I have been wanting to shoot a jump but have yet to try it out. How do you go about photographing a jump?

  • Vladimir

    Amazing shot!!!
Well, it sounds that the guy forgot his parachute… lol

  • No wonder I was getting more hits on Flickr today on the shot.

  • @Mei Teng: You try. And try. And try again! My jump shot took me about 20 tries.

Helpful hints — you can use a remote trigger with a time-delay (as in, press the trigger, then the photo gets taken 2 seconds later) to help and get the jump timed just right. Then you’ll have to play around with your own timing. Be prepared to be tired and sweaty at the end!

It also helps to have an assistant, or to be taking a photo of someone ELSE, so that you can control the camera directly.

I’ve always wanted to try a jump photo with a trampoline underneath…my guess is there would be some fun shots.

  • This photo is absolutely hilarious! I can’t get enough.

  • great shot Michael 🙂

  • Thanks Darren. I almost knocked my self out on that one cause when i landed I slid across the bedspread and hit the head board.

  • LOL – I can imagine.

what I love about it is the contrasting expressions on your faces – pure joy/excitement and pure embarrassment (guessing on that one). nice work.

  • DC, thanks for the tips. Now to find a location to photograph a jump. I don’t want to look like a fool jumping up and down! 🙂
