Win a Nikon D60 DSLR
update - this competition is now over - it was run earlier in the year. Please do check out our Forum for new competitions and assignments.
Win this DSLR! Read on to Find out How
It is time for another competition here at DPS. This time we’re taking it up a notch and giving away a DSLR for the first time ever to one lucky DPS Forum member.
The Prize
The prize is a Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Lens worth $729.99.
This wonderful light and compact DSLR has has a 10.2 CCD megapixel sensor, built-in dust reduction, eye sensor, 2.5 inch LCD, built-in flash, continuous shooting at 3 frames per second, a good variety of shooting modes and much more. I have a number of friends with this camera who regularly boast of its features.
This prize is being sponsored purely by DPS (although if anyone from Nikon is reading and wants to donate a D60 do get in touch).
So how do you win it?
To win you need to do two things:
1. be a member of our forums
2. be active on our forums between now and the end of April.
Every time you post in our forums in any way (asking a question, answering someone else’s, sharing an image, critiquing someone else’s, posting a review of a camera or book etc) you enter this competition. The more you post the more chances you have to win (make one post in April and you have one chance to win, make 200 posts and you have 200 chances to win).
All we ask is that your posts in the forum are genuine and not spammy. Add value and you’ll be fine but spam the forum and you’ll be taken out of the running. Again - let me emphasize this - if you just add a whole lot of empty posts you’ll be taken out of the running.
The winner will be chosen at random at the start of May and I’ll ship the prize to you as soon as I get your details.
PS: this is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
Please also note that it’s post in our FORUM NOT HERE ON THE BLOG that count for this competition

Wow…that’s an awesome giveaway. TONS of members eligible for this one though. Good luck to all!
April 4th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Many people have told me about this blog and I have had it on my feed reader for some time. I am going to give it a shot and join up in the forums. I just might be spending my entire April here. :-)
I’ve also heard about the assignments and other challenges. I am certainly up for trying those out as well.
April 4th, 2008 at 12:42 am
I love this place.
April 4th, 2008 at 1:04 am
I agree with Nobie. I love this site also. By daily reading the articles and assignments, I am contemplating exactly what I want to express through the lense. It helps to get lessons on light, lens, and concept of how a camera works. I also like to look at other people’s work and the results of their assignments. Now, if someone will help me figure out how to update my original “sign up info” and how to download the results of my lessons or pictures, I would greatly appreciate it. Unfortunatly, in the past, I have had no interest in computers. Now I discover I am behind in the basics!!!!
April 4th, 2008 at 1:13 am
Free chance to win! Yeah!
April 4th, 2008 at 1:47 am
Nice invitation to spam and flood the forum. Good idea? I dunno, we’ll see.
April 4th, 2008 at 2:02 am
Great contest!
Is it open to Canadian readers / posters as well?
April 4th, 2008 at 2:24 am
Cool contest…
Is it open to members outside the US, like from India?
April 4th, 2008 at 2:39 am
is it open to the members coming from Asia?
April 4th, 2008 at 2:44 am
Aside from the giveaway…which I hope I win…I love this forum. So many helpful tips and a lot of great comments from a lot of great people. Hope my kids will be able to enjoy this forum in the future as much as I have.
April 4th, 2008 at 2:48 am

AHHH.
Nice contest!
Did you have to go and giveaway a D60?! I was just about to order my D40 =[.
April 4th, 2008 at 3:06 am
Wow! I love this forum! Best on the net!
April 4th, 2008 at 3:29 am
Open to indians too?
April 4th, 2008 at 3:31 am
Not sure if it’s fair or advisable to have a “one ticket per post” rule; it could be simply an invitation for unnecessary, spammy posts. One could spend the whole day in the “chit chat” section just to increase the chances.
By the way, are people outside the US eligible too?
April 4th, 2008 at 4:00 am
a nice chance to own a D60.
April 4th, 2008 at 4:17 am
wow, cool. :)
April 4th, 2008 at 4:19 am
I agree, great contest. I love how it’s posts through this month so that being a new member or an old makes no difference, everyone has a fair shot. Love it.
April 4th, 2008 at 4:21 am
I an a member of a couple news letters related to digital photography. I love DPS (Digital Photography School) because as a beginner I’m learning so much about this great hobby of mine. I’m learning tips on white balance all the way to lighting techniques. I’m using a digital point and shoot right now but hope to advance to a digital SLR in the near future. Keep up the great job Mr. Rowse at DPS.
April 4th, 2008 at 5:21 am
I can’t wait to win!
April 4th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Wow! I neeeeeed this.
whoo hoo this counts as a chance… :)
April 4th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Yes this is open to people from all parts of the world. As an Aussie I don’t like competitions that don’t open themselves up to non US people :-)
Sinbad - we’ve never had trouble with spam in our forum competitions before - hoping this will be no exception.
Please also note that it’s post in our FORUM NOT HERE ON THE BLOG that count for this competition
April 4th, 2008 at 9:44 am

Wow, what a great prize. I will be sure to do everything I can to try and win this camera. Good luck to all.
April 4th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Folks,I’m sorry, but I’m a Canon guy…however I think this is a wonderful prize at the best place a photographer of any “class” can be at…& I honestly mean that…DPS is the best place I’ve seen, not because of the “lessons” but because of the photographers(people) that are here…
April 4th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

April 5th, 2008 at 3:34 am
Dear god that’s a huge prize. I hope one of the more dedicated people wins it! (Unless they hate Nikon or already have one…) I hope this fantabulous prize won’t lead to spamming. (Yes, fantabulous is a word.)
April 5th, 2008 at 4:30 am
This is so cool! Gives me the drive to be active here.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:51 am

April 5th, 2008 at 8:33 am
Great way to get people to participate in the groups
April 5th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Great prize, will generate lots of interest, but prize is still not as good as your sight, keep up the good work.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Is this open to people from Chicago?
April 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
By all means join DPS. Learn with us and teach us new things. Just don’t flood the site. The last camera was won with about 60 posts for the month the count was taken.
The last time a contest was held, we ended up shutting down for a day, and redesigning the site. So enter, enjoy yourself, and be comfortable in the knowledge that you could win a Nikon by posting twice a day for a month.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I guess this is like my one in a thousand chance to win a camera.. I can’t afford to buy one, but I have wanted to own a camera for AGES. I don’t care what model it is, honestly, as long as I could finally take up photography.
Gods, thanks for this great great opportunity! When I found out that you could participate from ANYWHERE, I was thrilled! I thought I wouldn’t qualify.. I’m excited! Haha!
April 5th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I agree with slycat! This is a great opportunity, I’ve been craving for a Dslr for ages and this contest seriously is the answer to my prayers!

Oooh Nice prize :) i bought a nikon d40 My first DLSR, so happy with it, but another 1 would go down lovely. does that make me greedy? :P
April 11th, 2008 at 12:44 am
I don’t think wanting a spare makes you greedy…perhaps wise, though. A backup camera is always good.
April 11th, 2008 at 2:32 am
Hope this applies to us poor old Poms in Blighty
April 11th, 2008 at 7:12 am

April 11th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I bought my first used Canon 620slr 8 years ago & love it.I have not used any other brand, I still use film, one reason being I cant afford to update,so if I win I’ll be able to silence my critics for not being digital!! Thanks for the opportunity!! Even though Iam film, I have learnt so much from this site. Thanks Darren.

April 11th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
I wonder if they will do a random drawing or if this contest is based on how good we can grovel for the camera. I can grovel. Perhaps as good as the next person. Maybe better.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
thats cool. this is another better reasons for being close to your hobbies and passion of better photography which anywayz we are. Its encouraging on the part of guys at DPS.

Just wanted to thank Peter Carey for his timely article on retrieving lost images. Have just returned from a short holiday in Canberra to visit my 2 year old granddaughter and took loads of photos. Took my Sandisk into Officeworks just to have photos transferred to disc for safety reasons -to have them advise me they had “lost the lot” (after first telling me I hadn’t taken any photos at all!!!). Manager took my disc home to retrieve and returned it to me a couple of days later - still empty. Am waiting for it to be returned by post and will in the meantime thoroughly peruse the article. Many thanks.
April 15th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Can’t wait to take part of the comp!
I have also enjoyed articles and this site.
April 17th, 2008 at 12:07 am

April 17th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Hi, I started taking pictures of runners in this early spring in Minnesota with D80 that I borrowed!! I wish I could own a camera like that. I am going to win and take more pictures for runners, bikers in this summer. I need to learn more stuff with the camera. I couldn’t figure out shutter speed and focusing a main image. I would like to listen people’s experience using Nicon DSLR cameras. I am so exited to be a member of this site!!
April 27th, 2008 at 6:15 am
Good luck to all. I am so happy some lucky person will win. I love photography and hope to have a DSLR one day. Maybe this is my lucky time.
April 27th, 2008 at 6:26 am
I just found your site, so I doubt that I can win the camera, but I will share by back ground in photography. In the dark ages when I was in college I bought my first Nikon SLR. There was nothing automatic on it and I really love that camera. It weighed a ton–but I was young. About nine years ago I bought my 2nd Nikon, a Nuvis. It was the year before digital came out, but it took great pictures. This year it died. I started a web site on back-yard birding and I needed a digital camera so I could post my pictures on the site. Knowing very little about it, I bought a Kodak Easy Share and got a couple of extra lenses. I want a Nikon, but I have sunk all my money into my website, and I have gotten some really good pictures with this little camera. Obviously I am into birds. Since moving to Florida (where it’s too hot to go outside most of the year) I have really gotten into the beautiful birds that are outside my window. In particular I love raptors. My Osprey I’ve named Gorgeous, my Kestrel is Mama and my owl is Sweetie. There are pictures of all of them on my website and I will soon be posting others I have taken. But I always want to know more about photography. I read a good book put out by National Geographic called Photographing Birds by Rulon E. Simmons and Bates Little Hales. Ilook forward to reading how all of you work.
thanks for listening.

July 5th, 2008 at 11:13 am
I’m addicted to photography and a Nikon D60 would be an awesome camera to have.
November 19th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I found this in google, while looking up the Nikon D60 DSL.
I have joined the forum, which has great stuff on it anyway (I may never get anything else in my life done, trying to see and read everything on it!)
But, looking over this blog, I don’t see anything with a date (year) on it.
It says the contest is on (posting on the forum) till April, but was that las April 2008 or the coming one 2009?
I don’t see any dates, but one post says it’s April 30 when the person is writing.
Thanks…
December 5th, 2008 at 9:41 am
This to me is an amazing opportunity. Good Luck Everyone
December 12th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

Reading through this thread indicates that many have not read the competition rules, open to anyone in the world and spammers will be cut from the draw… to name but two.
I found this site interesting because I’m looking for a vehicle to design a series of projects for my partner, to help her to bring her hobby into sharp focus… to enable her in the future to use her natural photographic talents in the commercial arena - whilst also using photography to market “our” various other business aspirations.
An infrequent happy-snapper myself, I have captured moments of excellence like the luck in all of us, and produce some memorable perhaps even iconic images - but I have never, until now perhaps, considered taking photography on personally? An interesting competition for dPS to consider might target pure novices… taking them from an initial submission of their “snaps”, to measuring their progress over say a six months competition period - with the winners being judged by a combination of subscriber votes and prize sponsors.
As a marketing strategist I can see significant value in such a competition: dPS would find a new wave of photography students; subscribers/contributors would enjoy interacting and playing a role in developing new talent; and not least, prize sponsors would capture an opportunity to indoctrinate lifelong customers for their products.
What do you think of my idea?
I’m not looking for a reward, but if you want to make an exception… a Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Lens would put a smile on my face, and ya never know I might get lucky and take some more iconic shots!
Merry Christmas to one and all.
January 2nd, 2009 at 2:58 am
Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a blast!
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:13 am
Santa didn’t bring me my Nikon this year :( But maybe my wish will still come true.
Happy O Nine to all of you :)
April 2nd, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I’m trying to start a Photography Business, I have read on this site, you should have a Contract. Wow, I guess I’m really nieve. I’m trying to find people who want good Wedding Pictures. In this ecomony, with people being out of work and I have been blessed in my life, I thought “I don’t need a Contract”. We have a program called, “Bids For Bargains”, you sell them something and in turn you get radio Advertising for the same amount of money you invested. I sold a “Wedding Package”, the Bride and I have an agreement, no contract, yes it’s in writing. Her Dad, as a great Dad he is, see’s Dollar Signs $$$$$$$, he bids on the Wedding Package and gets it, half price. Yes, I guess I should had thought about this a head of time. Like I said, I’m new. But I can guarantee you one thing, the next time I do this, there will be an exception added on to the selling of Wedding Packages on Radio and I will have a Contract. I have two Nikon D 40’s and love them. Yes, I need two, incase one breaks or my assitant can’t make it. Go NIKON, Yea! Jacquie
