Win a Digital Camera! [Forum Competition]
Do You Want to Win this Sexy Little Camera?

All you have to do to win is register for our forum and start posting. Every post increases your chance to win!
To celebrate passing 10,000 members in our forum I want to run a competition to say thanks to everyone who has joined up and who is participating. This competition will run between now and Valentines day (14 February). I’ll shut it off as midnight on that night ticks over in Melbourne Australia (where I am).
How do you enter?
You simply need to be active on our forum between now and 14 February. By active I mean you need to be a member and be posting. Between now and the end of the competition every post that you make will be an ‘entry’ into the competition. If you post 10 times, that’s 10 entries, if you post 100 times then that’s 100 entries.
Your posts do need to be genuine (spammy posts that are obviously just to get your number of entries up will be deleted and will get you banned from the competition). Stay on topic and you’ll be fine.
This means you enter every time you submit a photo to an assignment, post a picture in our Critique section, show us how you took a shot, review a digital camera, ask a question in our technique section – any post you make gives you another chance to win.
So what are the prizes?
First Prize
One lucky winner will be taking home a brand new Canon Powershot SD950IS.
This a model of point and shoot digital camera that I’ve recently tested and thoroughly enjoyed using. It’s valued at $349.88 and is a 12.7MP camera with a 3.7x optical zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD, face detection, titanium body plus lots more.
I liked the camera so much that I’m going to pick one up shortly myself. I think it makes an ideal 2nd more portable camera if you have a DSLR or would be a great point and shoot if you had the choice of just one.
Runners Up Prizes – 5 people will win either a copy of Scott Kelby’s new Digital Photography Book Volume 2 OR a Sanyo Eneloop Battery Charging Kit with 4 Rechargeable Batteries. Both of these products have been extremely popular with DPS readers since our Fun Christmas Gifts post.
Runners up will be given the choice of either the book or batteries and recharger.
The overall winner and runners up will be selected completely at random. Remember every post you make before now and 14 February will put you in the running to win.

How exciting! I hope I win something :)
January 21st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Can participants be from anywhere in the world? :-)
January 21st, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Kat – yes you can be anywhere in the world. The camera will come from the US so will have a US power connection – but you can still use it with a travel power adapter which can be bought very cheap.

Sweet! I’ve been following both your blogs for a while now and also lurking around the DPS forums, and now I have a fantastic reason to sign up and become active. Hope I get the battery charger, mine sucks.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:31 am
Great deal
You get a chance to win Canon Powershot SD950IS for just being an active member
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:00 am
This is great! I get to read one of my favorite blogs and have a chance to win something too. Life is good!
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:29 am
and who will count the posts??
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:18 am
What a great way to get us newbies inspired to post … currently I’ve just been reading, looking, observing … now I really feel the need to post some of my pics and hope for the best.
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:00 am
Ooh, fun. My camera died last week, so I sure could use the prize.
Love the site, btw.
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:01 am
I didn’t know you had two blogs. I’ve been following DPS for awhile now and only just realized your all the way over in Australia…amazing, the things one can not know on the internet and yet still feel like they know a person… sort of?!?
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:20 am
How neat. Wonderful how many people this site has reached!
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:58 am
I agree with Critton
“This is great! I get to read one of my favorite blogs and have a chance to win something too. Life is good!”
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:27 am
I’d even settle for the battery charger, my batteries are on their last leg.
January 22nd, 2008 at 10:54 am
Would be great to win something. Looks like a nice camera.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:03 am
I love looking at the competition entries and the How to blogs but always feel slightly overwhelmed. I do try something different every now and then with my shots. Unfortunately most of them get deleted.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:18 am
I love contests but rarely win. Maybe this will change my luck. Either way it is still fun, thanks.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:21 am
My digital is dying and a new one would be great!
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:03 pm
The DPS newsletter always has something of interest for me. DPS is my favorite source of digital photography information.
January 22nd, 2008 at 12:59 pm
How exciting! I really wish winning this competition.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:14 pm
By the way… what time is it in Australia now?
It’s 00:13 am on Jan 22nd.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:21 pm
This is great news! Thank you for reinviting me to join DPS. I know I have not been active before so I have made a new year’s resolution – be more active in DPS!
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:34 pm
it’s the afternoon here in Aus.
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:37 pm
This is GREAT!!! I would love to win that camera :P
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Thanks for the reminder to be active, I have been lurking but no posting. I will try hard to be more active and post
thanks.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I always watch what happens here but never have posted any questions. I use a Sony Cyber-shot, 5.1 mega pixels as my favorite camera and really have taken to like it. I watch this site to learn much about digital photography. I have a collection of 150+ pictures of old barns located in Manitoba, Canada.
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Well..an interesting way to keep us active.
3 cheers to you !

I visit this site every day, and always just seem to lurk. This excellent offer will stand in as a “bribe” for me to be more participatory. That camera is so cool! Thanks for the bribe! ;)
January 22nd, 2008 at 3:16 pm
I have been visiting, but very busy, I posted a new photo today in the landscape section, let me know what you think.
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:32 pm
it is good i want to win it
January 22nd, 2008 at 4:51 pm
very nice incentive ,just lost a p.a.s. cam that I used a lot .
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
It is very great gift. I have been learning new things from DPS for a while and I would love to win that camera :>
January 22nd, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Personally, I think that you should only be able to enter once, and not if you are a moderator or whatever. I work and there is no way in the world I’m going to be able to “enter” more than a couple of times per month! I just don’t have the time and I don’t spend every day on the net. I like to think I have a life outside of the net. Just my 2 cents worth.
January 22nd, 2008 at 7:41 pm
It is a very nice incentive indeed, so I hope can win something :-)
January 22nd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
This is great. I hope I’ll win the camera…
January 22nd, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Great, I need a new p&s!
Do responses to this blog count or just the ones on the forums?
I’m already a member but haven’t posted anything for a while. Its time to get my bum into gear :b
January 23rd, 2008 at 12:05 am
I admit I’ve been scanning the posts but not contributing lately. The competitions that required current snaps kept me from participating. Just too tough to get out and get that “on topic” photo – rather than reaching into the archive. Just stopped posting.
The tips – hey, they’re just as good as ever. Thanks for making me a smarter photographer.

I’m in.

This is great. I’ve been shopping for a new P&S. Thanks for the contest.
January 23rd, 2008 at 3:24 am
Really I like this site very much and I like photography and I hope to win the Canon Camera
January 23rd, 2008 at 6:09 am
I have not been getting the newsletters. I did get one just lately. I have not posted anything because I didn’t know how. Last year when I joined someone told me to join Flickr and post pictures from there. Well, I finally have gotten the hang of Flickr and lost your address…..
I am looking forward to learning more about your site.
I love my camera and have learned a lot this last year.
Well, if I won the Cannon Powershot….I would love that too…;0)
January 23rd, 2008 at 7:06 am
I’d like to see some info on the Nikon D300
January 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 am
I’ts really nice this competition!
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I’ve been following the tips in the newsletter and trying to learn how to use them with my camera, but haven’t been able to figure out the forums (I’m not very computer literate!). I finally got my daughter over to show me how to navigate around. Hopefully I’ll be able to actually post something soon!
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Been an avid reader of DPS Newsletter for some time. This is an excellent opportunity to “get off my butt” and actively participate in a very informative forum.
January 23rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I’ve just graduated from point and click to DSLR and have found this site very useful for a novice like me
January 24th, 2008 at 1:41 am
I just be an active member and have a chance to win a prize !! Thanks ! It is a great incentive.
January 24th, 2008 at 3:25 am
That’s really nice. But is the conpetition only about the number of times entries have been made or also about the quality of the entry?
January 24th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Good idea
keep posting gr8 articles
January 24th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Great contest. The only thing we have to do is post.

January 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
This contest made me do my first post. Love the site.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
it is really a pleasure to find the new format newsletter with many opportunities. it is a matter of delight and surprise to find the path of educating the individuals as also a means of further benifit and being honoured through the innovative programmes including distribution of awards.
January 26th, 2008 at 12:54 am
I am excited. I love the ability to share information For FREE!!! Rewards also help with the motivation as well.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:51 am

January 27th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Looks like I found your site at a good time. Think I just might run and join the forums. :)
January 28th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I am relatively new to DPS and I joined when I needed help with understanding digital cameras. I am very happy to get the newsletters which contain a lot of useful info. I now have a Canon SD850 IS that I am very happy with. Recently, I have developed an interest in a digital SLR like the Nikon D40X. If anyone on this list has any experience with the D40X I would be glad to get your help. Thanks in advance.
January 29th, 2008 at 1:25 am
New to DPS but in the competition !!!
January 29th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I have been trying for days to join the forums but no matter what email address I use I never get the email so I can confirm my account. :( I have emailed support and not heard anything. :(
February 1st, 2008 at 5:11 am
Yet another reason why I love this news letter.
February 2nd, 2008 at 1:07 am
I haven’t been active but have been reading your articles. I feel I have received some great information. I loved the one about the eyes in a picture. I have been aware of body positions but never considered the eyes before. Thanks.
February 2nd, 2008 at 3:14 am
Always have a camera with you….this one will fit in my purse! How clever is that? Today’s “point and shoot” cameras are awesome.
February 2nd, 2008 at 10:39 am
Just joined! Looks like a great site and great contest. I plan to be around a while
February 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 am
I use a Nikon D-40 for a lot of my shooting but bought an Olympus to carry in my purse after missing a shot one day. Driving home from church down a narrow road I came upon a big buck standing there. My Nikon was at home. Promptly went out and bought the small Olympus which never leaves my purse. Only problem is I have never encountered the buck again! :)
February 8th, 2008 at 1:30 am

February 10th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

I am new here. So far what I see, I like. Is there anyone there that can tell me if my new printer, Epson RX595 should be making a grinding noise when it is printing. It sounds like the gears are not lined up right.
February 13th, 2008 at 1:52 am
A friend who is a photographer has this as her p&s. She likes it so far!
February 13th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Looks like a beauty.
I could use a new camera.
My daughter has broken 2 of them.
Accidents happen, I guess.
They don’t bounce. That’s for sure.
February 13th, 2008 at 11:06 am

February 14th, 2008 at 3:29 am
If you are not an owner of Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Book Volume 1, run don’t walk to your nearest book store (OK, order it on the internet). Read it and you will want to keep it with you in your camera bag.
February 14th, 2008 at 3:36 am
TRo add to Micvhael’s comment, add Volume 2 while you are getting Kelby’s book.
February 14th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Further comment to add to Michael & Nancy’s comments. You can also add his “The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book” to your library. Guarantee it is worth the cost.
February 14th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Winning a camera would be such a great Valentine’s present to me from me….
February 15th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Today’s the day!
February 15th, 2008 at 8:34 am
I really would have commented on Scott Kelby’s volume 2, but I don’t have it yet (see me crying).
February 16th, 2008 at 9:57 am
I hope everyone who is having some of the icey weather is taking advantage of it. I went out the other morning soon after daylight and got some great shot (well, I thought they were, lol) of plants with icycles. My favorite was rhodendron leaves covered with ice and icycles hanging from them. Got some trees with ice of the windward side of them in the sun. GL
February 17th, 2008 at 3:48 am
