My favorites are the same as yours, however my 70-200 is on my camera the most, and I wish I had gotten the smaller focal length 24-70 with the f2.8 for the lighting advantage. The 300 f2.8 is on my wish list. It will probably be there a while. I love sports photography.

I have lots of lenses as I am exploring photography. I buy all from ebay or other second hand suppliers. One of my favourites is a rather battered canon 50mm macro, which takes good portraits and flower pics. Another is a Sigma wide angle 10mm - 20mm, which even with me behind it takes a decent scenic shot.

I love my Canon 70-200 L series 2.8 and in addition I carry the 24-70 2.8. With these two you have the range of basically 24 - 200 with IS built-in. This should cover most all instances from up close through your telephoto needs. Canon does not make cheap gear and I always teach to buy based on your seriousness. If you are happy being a part time novice who is happy shooting decent pictures then check into knock off brands, you'll save $$ and probably be happy. For those who wish to become a lifelong student in the art of capturing time and beauty, then I suggest sticking with either Nikon or Canon and use their lenses as well. I don't believe there needs to be only 1 correrct answer for everyone. That being said I am guessing that Tiger Woods would kill me using my clubs and I using his. Do your homework and listen to others, then go and buy what works for you.

I am tossed up between the 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and the 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. I use both lenses on a pair of 1.6x cameras and can shoot 90-95% of my imagery and virtually all of my travel and general photography with this pair of lenses which give me an equivalent focal range of about 28mm to 320mm. I don't miss the 55-70mm gap as log as I have the lenses mounted on two cameras.

Just owned EF-24-70 F2.8. and mounted on my Canon 40D at all time. Wishing for Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom, but the price is too big! :)

My choice is my Nikkor f1.8 35mm AFs G. On my Nikon D90 it corresponds to 50mm which was aways my choice on fixed lens rangefinder cameras and is closest to normal vision. It is tack sharp and does away with flash for most interior shots. It's small , weights next to nothing and is a real bargain. Downside is you have to use your feet not just twist a lens barrel!

The one I'm using now is the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens. It's my favorite among the lenses I have (18-135 kitlens, 70-300 G & 50mm f1.8).
