This Week in the Digital Photography School Forums
Weekly Assignment
This week we finished the X-tych assignment. The goal was to put together several shots into a single shot. There were lots of shots that were very interesting, and lots of varied subjects, but we managed to pick out a few that we really liked. Our winner was duna for the shots taken before a wedding as the bride was getting ready. Not only did this show a very memorable morning, but it really told that story of getting ready before the big day. Our first runner up was Matt Redmayne for his shot of blowing a bubble. We really enjoyed the three distinct times demonstrated in the shot, and the selective colouring really worked in this shot to focus on that pink bubble. Our final runner up was die in a rosary for the picture of the tasty looking food. Even though the food assignment was a few weeks ago, it still made our mouths water. You could almost taste how nice it was.
Our latest assignment is Auto-Mode. By now you would have heard lots of people talking about only shooting in Manual Mode. But here’s an assignment that you can take part in no matter which mode you use on your camera because all you need is Auto mode this week. In order to be eligible for the mini-contest, your photo needs to have been taken between 30 July – 13 August 2008, the exif must be intact, and you need to include the words “Assignment:Auto-Mode” either in your post-title or your post-text. And of course, it needs to have been taken in Auto-Mode this week. Good luck!
Weekly Poll

This week we asked people in the forums what they do when it’s raining. It wasn’t surprising that most people would rather stay inside, but there were a few brave souls who were more than willing to brave all but the very worst of the weather in order to go out shooting.
Major_Small wouldn’t let anything stop him from taking photos and said “
I love the rain – the heavier it’s raining the better. Bring on the hail too. Unless it gets big enough to start leaving bruises or breaking glass. Then I’ll head for shelter until it passes.”
And Teewinot said “I admit I would probably stay inside because I’d be too worried about getting my equipment wet. That said, if I’m out all day shooting (like on a hike or something) and there is a chance for rain, then I bring along dry bags instead of choosing to leave my stuff at home.”![]()
Check back later this weekend for our next poll.

hmmm – ok i have a question – i have struggled with htis since joining a year ago and think i’m just being daft. By the time the photography contest is published in the blog there are only ever two days left… how do you find out as its about to go up since only the current contest is sticky in the forum? I do get confused by old and new threads there (man i sound daft rather than strapped for time) anyhow – is there an easy trick to finding out or would it be possible to publish upcoming contests in this weekly summary too (for the slow ones like myself?!)
