Welcome to another week in the forums. To start off with, there’s a new area to the forum for Games & Challenges. We’ve moved some of the games from other areas to here, so check it out if you’re looking for something fun to do or you’re looking for a past game.

Weekly Assignment

the exorcist (by ~shepdc~)The crowd anxiously awaits the award for the winner of the Movie category. The presenter walks up to the mike… And the nominees for the category of Movies are: shepdc for “The Exorcist”, Teewinot for “The Manchurian Candidate”, and skyman8 for “Scream”. And the winner is… shepdc for “The Exorcist”. Congratulations to all who were nominated and all those who participated with their creative entries (shepdc, keep the acceptance speech down to 30 seconds or less).

Scary Exhibition (by Kristijan Žontar)threesixtyfive - day 85 (by ~Teewinot~)This week we also started a new assignment, Repetition. Should I say it again? We’re looking for, well, things that repeat. So, in order to be eligible for the mini contest, you need to have taken the picture between 21 November – 4 December 2007, your post must contain “Assignment:Repetition” somewhere in it, and the exif must still be in tact. Good luck! Good luck!

Weekly Poll

SellphotosLast week we asked how many forum members sold their photographs. While most people said that they don’t, this was one of our closer polls since about 30% of the you said that you do sell your photos.

xxpinballxx said that he doesn’t sell his shots, and “Would love to have some shots worth selling but for now i’ll stick to getting the knowledge to create those shots…once there I might look into selling if theres a call for it….”

But WooD told us the story of how he got started selling his photos and said “Not many average parents has the equipment to get decent sport shots. So I had some cards printed up, and headed to the ball field one day. I asked one of the coaches if it was OK to shoot their game, no worries. Within an hour I had over a dozen parents come up to me asking who I was, if I sold my pics, and if I could get some of their son. Before that game was over I had a coach from another field ask me if there was anyway I could shoot his game that next morning. That’s pretty much the way I got started.”

This week, we want to know whether you print matte or glossy photos.

Hot Threads

Array of Tabs: A critique shot that fits in well with this week’s assignment. miscasedpeas shows how soda can tabs can create an interesting photographic result.

Oh God, Please Help Me, I’ve agreed to do a favor wedding!!!: Well, the title kind of says it all, doesn’t it. It’s not just the bride that gets frazzled at the wedding, especially when the photographer is doing the pictures as a favour. Here’s another thread about what to do when you’re shooting a wedding.

How Did They Do It?: A post-processing question that looks at how to get those super shiny eyes as well as a cross-processed look. If you have a question about how to get a specific look, don’t forget that the post-processing section is the perfect place to ask.

Alphabet game…: Another fun game to waste a bit of time, the alphabet game. Similar to Saralonde’s alphabet threads earlier this year, Haeretik has started a thread where the goal is go from A to Z and back again to A in the same thread. So, stop by and see if you can contribute a picture to where we are in the alphabet.

Other Threads to Note

Another week means another What Would You Do thread. The goal of these threads is to help you expand your post-processing skills (or show off what you already know), and at the same time, help someone save a photo that they may have thought was otherwise not worth saving. After this week, future WWYD threads will be located in the new Games & Challenges area of the forum. We also have another Classic Rock Challenge. This week, DigiDave challenges you to interpret a song (or the album title) from George Harrison’s “All things must pass”. Stop by the Games & Challenges area of the forum to participate in this challenge.
