This Week in the Digital Photography School Forum (8-14 March ‘09)
Before we get in to this week’s forum update, first, let me extend a huge congrats to one of our mods, JiminyClickit who was the first person in the forums to reach a huge 10,000 posts! Thanks for everything JiminyClickit!
Weekly Assignment
Forum members really showed off a bit of themselves in this wee’s Self Portraits assignment. Before we announce the winners, let us just say how nice it was to see such a great turnout for this assignment and to see how many people tried it and tried to get over the fear of a self-portrait, even if we didn’t pick their photo as a winner. Well done guys! Our winner this week was JerInTheBox’s self portrait taken in a tunnel in a moving car! And if you’re wondering how he took it? Well, he explains it in this thread. Our first runner up was Ali QJo’s “A little confusion”. A great imagination and a great wardrobe for this shot, it really shows that you don’t have to include a face to show off someone’s character and personality! And last but not least was sgf323’s piercingly hand coloured self-portrait. The texture was added to the background, but the rest was had coloured in Photoshop. It created a really unique result!

Last week we asked you to take a self-portrait, so continuing the theme, this wee’k’s assignment is Portrait of a Person. This is a portrait of someone other than yourself, and yes, it has to be a person. And now a reminder of the basic rules of the mini-contest. First, the photo needs to have been taken between 4 – 18 March 2009. Second, your post must include “Assignment: Portrait of a person” and the date the photo was taken. And finally, your EXIF should be intact and it’s helpful if you post the main details in your post (camera, lens, ISO, shutter speed, aperture). Next week’s assignment will be “Vivid”. What we’re looking for is shots that use one or more bright colours so that the colour is really part of the subject of the picture.
