THANKSGIVING: Weekend Photography Challenge
Many of our readers are, as they read this, recovering from one of their biggest holidays of the year – Thanksgiving – which was this past Thursday.
While I know not all DPS readers are in the US I thought the theme of Thanksgiving was something we all could participate in as we do this week’s photography challenge.
The challenge is to photograph something that you’re thankful for OR to share a thanksgiving shot that you took over the last few days – and then to share the shot in comments below.
Use your imagination and feel free to interpret the theme as you’d like. You might like to take a picture of a person, object or do something symbolic to show what you’re thankful for. Anything goes – all we ask is that you keep your shots to a family friendly standard.
PLEASE NOTE: We’re looking for ‘new‘ shots (or shots taken in the last few days) – this is a challenge rather than a look through your archives for a shot! This is about inspiring you to take more photos, not just showing off what you’ve already taken – we have a ‘share your shots‘ section in our forum for showing other shots you’ve taken so please do use that section for that purpose.
Once you’ve taken your photos – choose your best 1-2, upload them to your favourite photo sharing site either share a link to them even better – embed them in the comments using the our new tool to do so.
If you tag your photos on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSTHANKS to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.
I can’t wait to see what you’re thankful for!

My father-in-law lost his wife earlier this year, so the holidays are kind of tough. We tried to cheer him up a little bit (distract him) and it worked for a while – http://www.flickr.com/photos/71443419@N00/4138778798/
i like this view of the city from his apartment, too -

I just had my third baby almost two weeks ago. I was nervous to bring home a new baby boy to two girls. They have completely amazed me with the love they have shown the new baby. So I am thankful for their sweet hearts that are full of love and this new healthy boy.

Dear Mr. Rowse:
I messed up your recent e-mail to me,I wanted to read your article on Zoom Photography.
Would you please send it out to me again? If I ever get good with this computer and learn how
to save files,i.e., pictures and move things without lossing them, then I would not be scared
to subscribe to a Photo learning school like yours and taugh by a Professor like yourself.
Happy Holidays,
Gene

When I took this, it was late Thurs. evening, and my niece and I were watching High Society on tv (her first time seeing it). We don’t get much time together like that, and I enjoy it when we do (we really do think a like on many things). She’s going off to college next year, so I grabbed this shot while we were at the kitchen table. She also doesn’t usually let me get a serious picture of her (she also takes a lot of pictures and likes using my DSLR when she get’s the chance) I chalk this one up to Bing Crosby’s & Frank Sinatra’s antics in this movie. So here it is in color and in B&W. I don’t know which one I prefer.

If my previous attempt pops up, I apologize for posting twice. But, I think something went wrong.
In any case, Here’s one of my shots from Turkey’s Day. Both of our families live far, far away. So we resolved to spend the day together.

I’m thankful for chocolate. :D I’m also thankful that my sister took a photo assignment in Jamaica this weekend and borrowed all my lenses but this one, or I never would have forced myself to learn what it could do. The rest of the set is here: http://bit.ly/6TRyg

I headed out on what was a foggy Thanksgiving morning to try to get some shots with my day old Nikon D90. Appropriately enough my first subject was a wild turkey, no doubt a very “thankful” turkey!

I’m thankful for so many things… but mostly I am thankful for my family. Some of my lovely cousins were at our house for Thanksgiving. My aunt took a few photos of us with my camera…

Thanksgiving was a wonderfully foggy morning in Washington, D.C., so I took a quick spin around the U.S. Arboretum before feasting with the family.

I just tried to post this but I don’t think it went through.
I live in Arizona now but I desperately miss the weather and climate back home in Pennsylvania. I went back for Thanksgiving, and I was so thankful for the trees, grass, clouds, and leaves that I could see. I spent one morning roaming around my parents’ farm and taking lots of pictures (close to 600, I think). The entire week was so full of joy for me.
I have a set of 39 photos from that morning, you can see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pishkinn/sets/72157622769257555/

After spending Thanksgiving at a family reunion, I’m thankful for:
Family… new and old

Both of the babies in these pictures are my 2 month old second-cousin, Isaac… first with my Dad (Isaac’s great-uncle) and next with my grandmother (Isaac’s great-grandmother).

I am thankful for a partner at home that can cook (he’s a chef). He can make dinner out of anything in the fridge.
