Take the 10 Meter Photography Challenge Now

Today on Twitter (follow DPS here) I was looking at some of the most recent Tweets from a few photographers and came across this one from @chasejarvis:

“There are at least 10 great pictures within 10 meters of you right now.”

He then linked to one he took on his iPhone to prove the point.

OK – so this seemed like a challenge that I thought might be worth sharing here on DPS.

Your challenge is to grab your nearest camera (could be the one on your phone) and to take up to 10 shots with it within 10 meters of where you are right now.

Once you’ve done that – upload it to your favorite photo-sharing site and share a link to it in comments below.

Update: Here are some of the first submissions to our 10 Meter challenge:

Images by Chris Parker (sunset) – Out of Kontrol (light) – Jenyu (Dog) – RedLeader (couch) – Foxor (leaf) – randy adamcyk (guitar) – Jamie (Flower)

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone elses images. Please consider passing on news about this challenge to friends and your network.

Cool! I was just feeling like I'm not taking any new shots. This forced me to at least look for something different. Maybe I'll take on more of these "challenges".

I first looked 10 meter around me and was about to give up.
But I however decided to take the challlenge.
Here is what I came up with late in the afternoon in my empty small office.

  • LadySilke May 29, 2009 04:51 pm

This is my first post and the first time that I have attempted a photo challenge! I grabbed my camera phone instead of my camera, now I wish I had taken the time to grab the camera.

  • Andy Burton May 29, 2009 02:36 pm

10 photos within 10 metres in 28, not 10, minutes.

    A fun excercise.

Reading this made me laugh since last week I stumbled upon this "challange" all by myself...

Last Tuesday my new macro lens arrived at my office and I was so excited to try it out, I put in on my camera (yes, I brought it to work anticipating that my new lens would arrive and I might have a spare moment to play with it.) Since taking photographs isn't part of my work, I hid in my office and snapped a few shots... all with in 5 feets of where I was standing. I loved the results...

    I managed this inside:

And for some reason that I can't quite figure out, I actually like this shot that I took by stepping out onto my balcony:

This is a really great challenge.

  • Bill Visick May 28, 2009 12:20 am

Thanks for the great challenge - I was in a cafe on Waterloo railway station in London when I read it: lots of interesting subjects around. I was pleased with the picture of two girls, one looking knowingly while the other made a phone call...and not affected just because one of them was from an advert. Pictures here:

  • Patricia May 27, 2009 11:44 pm

    Great challenge!!! Very inspiring

  • hendro May 27, 2009 10:52 pm

    taken in my lovely garden

  • Nancy May 27, 2009 04:59 pm

A friend and fellow photographer and I used to play the "red light challenge" game, where we'd ride around in her car, and every time we were stopped at a red light, we'd take pictures. While it was frustrating to be stuck in the car and not be able to get the angle you want, the challenge that this posed made it all the more fun.

  • glyphon May 27, 2009 12:44 am

This was rather challenging. Makes you think about viewing ordinary scenes and locations in a new perspective. Not the greatest of pictures, and not the best quality, but still a fun start to the morning.

Most of the shots I could take within 10 meters would involve children or a terrible mess.

I always tend to thinking that the best photos just can be taken somewhere far away in a foreign country. Therefore I love the idea of taking a closer look just around you.

First challenge. Never had the courage to post here before now - and looking at the rest of the comments/entries, I'm not sure my shots are worth the pixels anymore. But here goes nothing...

  • Frank May 26, 2009 04:53 pm

I was sitting at my desk and the only light in the house is my little desk lamp, that was limiting...

  • Marty May 26, 2009 02:56 pm

Love the concept - makes you look at how interesting things really are right around you.

  • Teresa May 26, 2009 02:14 pm

BTW - I was sitting on my deck reading this - so yes, all the pics are outside. :-)

  • Teresa May 26, 2009 02:13 pm

Well, I posted 21 and could have done more if it wasn't so late. I think this one intrigues me the most.

  • smartipants May 26, 2009 01:28 pm

I didn't take "10 in 10" but it reminded me of something I read a few years ago... can't remember who said it, but it was suggested that you load your camera with a 36-exposure roll of film and lock your self in the bathroom (or other small place) and shoot the roll. I've done this more than once and it was a great exercise in seeing things that you ordinarily overlook. =)

  • Chris May 26, 2009 01:27 pm

I thought just out side of the box...or my apartment anyway...

OK, so I couldn't stop at one!

While waiting for dough to rise, I thought I'd partake. The first two shots were actually taken in the morning before a ride, but they're within 10m of where I was when I saw the tweet (because I was too sore to walk down and shoot them again).

  • cphoniball May 26, 2009 12:13 pm

  • Lauren May 26, 2009 08:14 am

Great challenge! Granted it was easier for me than some people since I live in a tiny apartment so, at any given moment, am easily less than ten metres away from the majority of my things.
