This week’s Photoblog of the week is splendor – solis – a photoblog by Ian Thomson who has been generous enough to tell us about the gear he uses and to give us a tip of how to take great digital photographs (below the image). He’s also shared this wonderful image. Thanks Ian!

Splendor-Solis

What Gear Do You Use? – a Nikon D70 DSLR with 18-70mm Nikkor kit lens, a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 Macro Zoom Lens, a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro Lens, Original Lensbaby and Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash. (Plus a few oldschool cameras including Lomo / Holga / Lomo Fisheye / Polaroid one600 and Polaroid SX-70)

Could You Share a Tip with Us? – If I could offer any type of advice for someone learning the ropes (as I still am), it’d be to not be afraid of experimenting with your equipment.

Whether it’s trying different settings in camera or experimenting with different filters and processing techniques in your image editing program, you may find it adds a whole lot to the image. There are plenty of tutorials available online at different websites or even mailing lists which should help to develop post-processing skills and allow your creative side come out.
