SIGNS: Weekly Photography Challenge - Digital Photography School

SIGNS: Weekly Photography Challenge

Slippery slopeAfter our image collection of ‘Signs’ earlier today we’re going to take that same theme on this weeks photography challenge. Photograph and share an image or two on that theme.

The signs can be of anything you like. Road signs, advertising signs, protest signs. They can be of old signs, new signs, neon signs… anything you like.

Once you’ve selected the ‘Signs’ image that you’d like to share – upload it to your favourite photo sharing site or blog and either share a link to it or – embed them in the comments using the our new tool to do so.

Remember these challenges are not just about finding pictures in your archives to share – we’d really love to see you getting out your camera and taking a new photo – after all that’s what dPS is about, helping you take better shots rather than just celebrating past shots.

If you tag your photos on Flickr, Instagram, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSSIGNS to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

Also – don’t forget to check out some of the great shots posted in last weeks challenge – Black and White Landscapes challenge where there were some great shots submitted.

Second try at posting. I love to take photos of witty or picturesque signs. Inspired by this week's challenge, I have created a set on my Flickr page devoted to Signs:

A couple of the individual photos include the Starlite Drive-In, and an actor who found a way to go Hollywood.

These are some images including signs that were taken in areas that were badly affected by the bush fires on Black Saturday in Victoria in 2009. The first 3 images were taken today and the last image was taken last year on my sister-in-laws property where the bush fires completely destroyed their home. Luckily no one was hurt!

Thank you, thank you for the reminder. My 3 yo is OBSESSED with signs at the moment and I've been promising to take him on a 'sign walk' where we walk around our local neighbourhood and take photos of all the signs we see. We just did it and he had a ball! I'm going to get our photos printed so he can have his own little album of signs.

Four images from a current series that I am undertaking called 'Screens'. The back-lit screen ad billboard has become a predominant feature of the modern city at night. Written words and images were once enough to capture the attention of the passerby, but the invention of the electronic screen has changed the way in which people encounter information in the public realm. My work explores this in relation to the concept of 'the real'.
