Portraits with Props: Weekly Photography Challenge
As a followup to our recent post on Adding Interest to your Portraits with Props we thought it might be fun to do one of our weekly challenges on the topic.
So this week your challenge is to take and share a portrait photo that has some kind of ‘prop’. Really it can be any kind of prop (subtle or not) that you like whether it be some element of clothing (a hat, scarf etc), an accessory (sunglasses), having your subject hold something (flowers, balloons, an umbrella) or do something (type on a computer, blow a bubble with gum, ride a bike) or anything else.
Have some fun with it!
Once you’ve taken and selected the ‘Portrait with Props’ image that you’d like to share – upload it to your favourite photo sharing site or blog and either share a link to it or – embed them in the comments using our embed tool to do so.
If you tag your photos on Flickr, Instagram, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag them as #DPSPROP to help others find them. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.
Also – don’t forget to check out some of the great shots posted in last weeks challenge – Backyard challenge where there were some great shots submitted.

My prop was my garage door, which I had just tagged with graffiti:

Rachael Hanel is writing her memoir about growing up as a gravedigger’s daughter titled WE’LL BE THE LAST ONES TO LET YOU DOWN.
We shot promotional images for her last week. Some were standard poses and others a little different. It was great to get creative and Rachael was totally up for it.

Here’s mine… A shot called “Cool Blue” from late July 2012 in the subway tunnels below Montreal. Been wanting to include that red cloth into a portrait session for a long time and was very happy with the results when I finally did.

A night shot of my daughter smoking with an umbrella and a goofy fedora. I had a remotely fired sppedlight mounted inside the umbrella to hightlight the smoke. Another speedlight to camera right to light her face and the umbrella

This is soooo much fun! I photographed some work colleagues as criminal alter egos. Plenty of excuses to play with props! This is one of my faves from the set.

The prop is my glasses. I don’t usually include them so used them to pose.

have been wanted to shoot a portrait with red running cloth for a long time, finally get to do it, in light drizzle in the middle of the Malaysian Rain Forest. All comments and criticism are welcomed! =D

Real Happiness…

OK, I didn’t go for working on making a good, sharp photo for this challenge. The topic reminded me of some of the first photos I took last summer with my first (and only) dslr. Couldn’t pass up using one for this. The portrait serves as documentation of the subject’s frantic attempts to finish cleaning an apartment before departing on a three continent summer vacation. You can just make out the thinly veiled panic on the face. Lots of props! (Heavily processed, obviously.)

I am apparantley in the same boat as Emily Swoboda. My posts never work for the photography challenges. The images dont appear. But they always appear in the weekly assignments. Can someone take a minute, to try and explain why?? I am using Photobucket, and never have a problem with weekly assignments.
Thanks,
pyjamarama

This little guy doesnt need props for confidence, though they do help keep him still long enough to get a shot
