Portraits – Weekly Assignment
Over at the forums today in our assignments section we’ve announced that instead of a new assignment every day or two that we’ll try one per week. It will be announced on Wednesdays (US time – or Thursdays if you’re like me in Australia).
This week’s assignment is Portraits.
It’s fairly wide in scope and bounces off a series of posts that I’ve been writing here on the blog in our Portrait Category including:
- Is Portrait Formatting always best for Portraits?
- Posing Tips – Waistlines, Thighs and Bustlines
- How to Pose Hands in Portraits
- Posing Tip for Portraits – Which Way Should Your Subject Lean?
- Posing Tips for Portraits – Shoulders
- Environmental Portraits
So have a read of some of the above tutorials, grab your camera and spend some time this week practicing what you’re learning and sharing your results in the Portraits Assignment.
PS: the photos don’t have to be ‘new’ (you can post portraits from your archives) – although the point of assignments is to give you a topic to explore and improve your technique in – so post a few old shots but try adding some new ones too!

I love it. Every detail of the the face is so noticeable and clear. Very expressionistic.
