Pencil vs Camera by Ben Heine

Pencil Vs Camera - 68

I’ve been watching this project by Ben Heine for some time now and thought it’d be great to feature some of his work here on dPS. Ben started his ‘Pencil vs Camera’ work in 2010 – it mixes drawing and photography to create some fascinating imagery.

Ben’s work has inspired many other artists who have taken up similar style of producing images – many times with no attribution back to him as the creator of the style.

Check out this video where you can see some of the sketches progressing and then merged with the images

Ben’s created many of these images (we’ll feature a few below) but see the full set on his Flickr page.

Ben is also being featured in an upcoming documentary – here’s a short trailer for it which gives a little more imagery of him creating these images.

Learn more about how Ben produces these amazing images in the many interviews that he has been featured in and collates on his site. Also in the following interviews:

    HI,
ben is really good in both art (pencil drawing + photography) even i am noticing his presence from so long in social media its every image least shared by person will be 1000+, he is making a huge boom in social media with his unrealistic amazing work

It’s creative. It’s fresh and it’s so cool. It’s a shame people don’t credit him but hey if he keeps moving forward everyone will just have to follow him.

I’ve always wanted to like this series, it’s very creative and original… but I just can’t. I hate his drawing style!

I can definitely respect the creativity and the work that goes into it, but I don’t think I’ll ever actually enjoy looking at it.

In that sense I’m kind of happy for others to be taking the idea and making it their own. Although I’d agree that a credit wouldn’t go astray.

Wow – I’ve never actually seen anything like this before and can honestly say that it’s inspiring. I have no talent for drawing and probably could never achieve these kinds of images, but they are certainly creative and a nice addition to the art community!

It amazes me when there is a person whose brain can visualize stuff like this and then has the talent to execute it so well
