Meet Some of the dPS Team
One of the strange things about starting a blog and community for photographers from around the world is that while the team behind the site has grown – we don’t always get to spend a lot of time together face to face.
You might not know it but behind the scenes at dPS there are a team of around 25 people involved in getting this site to you. Many of that team are voluntary moderators in our forum – but there are also a growing number of people now working part time in different roles to get dPS to you.
Last week a few of us got together in Melbourne (where I live) for lunch. For many of the team it was the first time we’d even met in person despite having worked together for years!
I thought it might interest readers to put a face to the names that you might have heard here on dPS so here’s a little pic of most of those who gathered yesterday.

From left to right – those pictured are:
- Mitchell Kanashkevich (author of our Travel and Color eBooks and blog writer) and his wife Tanya
- Myself (Darren, the guy who started this thing)
- Jasmin Tragas (who helps produce our eBooks)
- Simon Pollock (many of you know him as ‘Sime’ or ‘GTVONE’ – he’s our community manager and heads up our support desk)
- Georgina Laidlow (she is involved in our editorial team)
- Neil Creek (author of our Photo Nuts and Bolts and Photo Nuts and Shots eBooks) and
- Naomi Creek (who designs our eBooks).
All of those in the shot except Mitchell are based in or near Melbourne so it was great to finally all get together for some good food and getting to know each other.

Great to see the people who provide this great information for us! So what camera did you use? Did you use a tripod? Can you please show us the EXIF info? And I’m glad to see that you used the rule of thirds in this group shot. =))
Keep up the GREAT work!

Great idea to give a shout out to the behind-the-scenes gang. As an editor myself, I understand how it takes a dedicated crew to pull off each new publication. I’m a loyal DPS reader and I truly enjoy engaging with fellow serious photogs–both pros and amatuers– on the site, even offering some advice myself from time to time. I agree with others… it’s been a major contributor to my self-motivation and improvement during the last couple of years. Keep it up!

Great seeing you all. Have been following this site now for quite some time. I’m located in Sweden and have a question for you Darren. I’m coming back “home” to Australia in October/November this year, do you have any good tips of what to shoot when in Melbourne (I’ll be there for 1½ week)?
Cheers mate and thanks a lot for a really great site.

Hello =)
May 26th, 2011 at 1:28 pm
When i started to read blogs i had a list of about 60!
When i realized that most of these blogs were keeping me inside instead of in the field, i went through a major cleaning and i am down to 15.
DPS remains on top of that list, thanks to your fun and informative content.
Congrats to all of you and nice to meet you.

Thank you for all your hard work on this blog. It has been instrumental in helping me learn what all those buttons on my camera do, what the words in the camera manual actually mean, tips how to (hopefully in the near future) go pro (or in my case semi-pro part time), and how to really capture your object of interest.
