GREEN: Weekend Photography Challenge

This weekend your photography challenge is in honor of St Patricks day (next Wednesday). It is to take a photo with the theme of ‘GREEN’ and to share it with our community.
Feel free to take any approach to the theme – it might be photographing something Green, or it could be taking a photo with an ‘environmental’ edge…. or perhaps a picture of someone who is inexperienced in something (feeling Green)…. whatever you like.
I’m expecting lots of apples, frogs, leaves…. but if you need a little inspiration – check out our previous coloured challenges – RED and BLUE.
Once you’ve taken your “GREEN” image, upload it to your favourite photo sharing site and either share a link to it below or embed it in the comments using the our new tool to do so.
If you tag your photo on Flickr, Twitter or other sites with Tagging tag it as #DPSGREEN to help others find it. Linking back to this page might also help others know what you’re doing so that they can share in the fun.

Green is a great photo subject for the weekend challenge. We have St. Patty’s day coming up, spring around the corner and the many environmental initiatives we are all undertaking. Hmm…not sure what I’m going to shoot yet.

Green = Environmentalism to me, and I was stoked to catch these ducks with the 300mm on a recent trip to the San Juan river in New Mexico. Plus… Mallards have green heads right?!? Don’t Pinch me for not having enough green!

Not a natural green – its a special light source that is actually blue but produces a green cast while fluorescing things like contaminants and teeth!

The wine bottle is actually green and gold for the “green” of this project, but I also wanted the whole image green and textured, and that was done in post.

I used this guy in January and I brought him out for an encore performance. I really worked on the lighting to get the V pattern on his head and the lights on his hands. Also the reflection is real. He’s sitting on a mirror.

This one is a joint effort with Sim. She set the shot and supplied the bling and paper backgrounds – I annoyed her with lightng and explanations of family-of-angles. Concept here is the link between the bling of childhood and the bling of adult hood. In other words “Blinging out the Child Within”.

450D, 1/200 @ f10 @ iso 800 (trying to get decent DOF here – not quite though)
EF24-105 f4L @ 105mm
Big soft brolly above and camera left; Big silver fleccy close and camera right lit with a YN460 low power to bring out the glitter in the bling.

Where we live Spring has not yet arrived hence finding green outdoors is a challenge currently. So, I mentioned to my almost 3 year old – Mommy needs to take a picture of something Green. She goes to her toy room and returns with her arms loaded with THESE.
PS : I’m trying to get a handle on taking pictures and thanks to DPS, I don’t have a dearth of ideas. Technique and style however is a different story :-(
