Neat flame images guys, lots of fun to work on in PS I bet. a couple of ideas, maybe use batter and wire clips to 'hotwire' the match to light? or use stick matches or long fireplace ones and ligth the wooden shaft and let flame burn up to the match head might provide for being able to secure the match? any way just a few thoughts.

Hi, have been offline for a while but am back & catching up :-)

@ heyadamhey - your welcome. You could try without remote & get the 3fps from your D60. It would mean trying to light match while pushing shutter.. but maybe use a lighter instead of striking the match. That way you would have more control & less movement of the match. Lets see those images!

@ Hurtado - I think you nailed it straight away with that image If you shot that in raw or any decent file size, you could crop right in to blow it up & sharpen a bit to intensify the effect.

@ jhingcabrera - Nice one, you got some great captures there! Cropping in on them will again intensify the image. I usually shoot matches head on (no pun intended) rather than from the side but I will have to try this as I think these would be even more interesting blended..

@ Digital Gran - Great Name Thanks, any editing software will do. Most have gone for the capture of the flame without any blending so only minor edits needed for that. look forward to seeing a few images

@ seanhoxx - Especially think using those large matches would work very well as it will give a bigger (& possibly longer) flare & result in less cropping... Great ideas!

1/250s
ISO 800
F/5.3

then tried them "head on" with a MUCH quicker shutter 1/4000s, ISO 800

obviously the last two had some editing in photoshop.

Thansk again for the imspiration Fiacre! always cool to try something new, and get nice results

I used my macro lens (Nikkor 105 mm f/2.8) and here was my best result. I love that it looks like a bird:

Bird of Flame

1/4000s at f/4.0 ; ISO 800
