And I don't mince mine...

Ken / Max - you two really make me feel ashamed to be part of dPS sometimes... you want to comment like you have above, go play on some other forum.

If you want to have a long and boring discussion resulting in the fact that yes, this is the internet but no, you don't get to talk to people like you have (above) feel free to email me...

Pathetic..

Simon

Thanks Sime - let me add my two cents worth. I started DPS and these forums particularly because I strongly believed that together we know a lot more than any individual. My hope was that together as a community we could build a positive space where people with all kinds of experiences, questions, problems, expertise, skills and styles could come together to learn, express themselves and inspire one another to become better photographers.

While I also believe that we'll have a varied set of opinions and ways of communicating to go with our other individual perspectives my hope is that DPS will be a place where these opinions are expressed constructively and in an encouraging way.

If this doesn't fit with you philosophy, personality or style - there are plenty of other forums that you can interact in.

If you want to be rude, arrogant, self important or snide - either change or move on. Sorry - but I won't stand for that in this forum.

Now - lets get back on with talking some photography

Before you get back on your high horse, and ride off in the sunset, just consider that within the thousand or so posts I have submitted here, there is a lifetime of information, that took a lot of time and hard yakka to achieve ,and I have given it freely. I afraid I don't suffer fools gladly. regards, Ken

....sadly (as displayed again, right here..) a lifetime of information and zero knowledge on how to deliver it without sounding 100% condescending? / just plain rude - Ken, there are thousands of people like you helping out daily on dPS but in a friendly "I don't know you so I'll keep this polite" kind of way - why can't you be one of those?

"Rude?" Good grief: In the words, of "Popeye" ;"I yam, what I yam, what I yam." Ask those who have pm'd me for my works on stock and mastering their DSLR's. At the present point in time I am co-writing a Stock photography bible with Jeff banke of Napa Valley, California-We may offer it as an e-book, or as a downloadable PDF file. Ken

Sime/Darren,

With all due respect, while I agree with your philosophy on helping others and using the global intelligence as a collective group think; I have to disagree with the idea that we should allow others to propogate misinformation and misrepresent something to which they cannot speak. If this kind of blanket acceptance of junk knowledge is allowed to continue you will only get confusion and mistrust of posts.

I believe there needs to be some sort of over sight when it comes to a serious tutorial.

I just don't believe that everyone in the community is created "equal", as it were.

The issue will become that you will be flooded with 95% junk 'tutorials' or information and it will take hours/days to shift through to the good information. People will get frustrated and move on and not bother to search (no one uses the search button, trust me) and you cannot spoon feed people information.

I just had a sad and difficult week, couldn't spend much time here and come back to see this. Honestly you could be the best and most knowledgeable photographer in the world but if you can't keep it civil no one will ever listen to you or take you seriously.

There are so many other ways to get your point across without driving people away.

Generally, I would not add anything to what Sime and Darren have already said, but Max and Ken, you have left me sad and disappointed. I understand gruffness and "telling it like it is", but not rudeness.
