Wow, thanks. Bokeh has been one of those "new" terms for me for quite a while now and I just never got around to looking into it. Great explanation/example - well written and easy to follow!

phlyersphan and aadam -- Thanks. I'm happy to pass on a little knowlege. I've been learning and benefiting from the expertise of others on this forum for quite a while. This is my first real attempt to give something back (albeit a small something), and as you can see from the coments by Wulf and Elay, I have more to learn. That's what makes this forum great!

Just echoing what others have already said--thanks for that excellent tutorial. Your explanation is clear, easy to follow, and makes me want to go out and experiment.

Thank you so much! I think that inspiring someone to take photographs is one of the best compliments possible.

The reason that longer focal lengths make for better bokeh is because while the detail in the background is blurred by the same amount, the background appears to be closer and therefore larger. A large blurry image will look blurrier than the same image at a small size - that's why everything looks in focus on the LCD screen. By bringing the background closer with the longer lens, you're increasing the apparent size of the blur, making it more noticeable.

Tiberius -- Thanks, your explanation makes a lot of sense. Also, I've enjoyed the tutorials in your signature!
