Hi! I know there's a few of these around the internet, but I put together a step-by-step including links and information on making and using a DIY grid spot made out of household junk. I tried to include helpful photos and also posted examples of the lighting effect on 2 different sized grid spots and a homemade snoot.
If one person finds it helpful, I'll consider it worth it! I warn you, making these things is addictive!

Safe to say it was worth it, then!

Here is the grid spot I made just before "Metalpam" posted her tutorial link.
grid spot attached to SB-600 ![]() Shot of drinking straw grid. made from a cereal box, black straws and black duct tape. ![]() Assembling the grid. I taped together 5 rows of 9 straws each (each straw was cut to 4"). They easily slip in and out so I can use the body as a snoot (minus the grid). ![]() Had I seen MetalPam's tutorial I would not have bought a box of 400 billion black straws (actually only 400). Either way these can add some creativity to your portrait shots. Have fun.
