How about one about Lens Hoods. Their uses, advantages, disadvantages and is it really worthy to have one.

Lens hoods are essential and you should have one for each lens-They not only protect lenses, but improve contrast and help prevent flare and stray light entering the lens. Ken

Online, there are a few paid eBooks and other tutorials for the D90, but hardly anything for the D5000. Here is one that I could find
D5000 | Digitutor | Global Site | Nikon Imaging

Not sure where you are located, but I would suggest you get hold of a good book on basics of Nikon cameras. One suggestion is this book
Amazon.com: David Busch’s Nikon D5000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography (9781435454972): David D. Busch: Books

Default A tutorial on how lens works

It would be great if you could provide a tutorial on how lens works? Such as how the zoom ring works? How Focal ring works? What does happen to the Focal length of the lens when the focus ring is rotated? Internal components of the lens? etc...

Thanks
Vinay

Not sure if that's what you're looking for but this blog (in french but there are only photos, no text) shows nice pictures of rainy days. The composition of all shots is great !
