Default How to do that shot ?

Hello,
I'm a new digital photographer and i am very interesting in this type of shot (very deep blue sky, very contrasted colors) as you could see in this link :

Could you write down a tutorial how to do that sort of shot ?
Thanks
Gilles.

The key to this type of picture is:
1. find a great scene
2. use native ISO setting

Plus.

Possibly use a polarising filter and/or a fair amount of post processing to increase the contrast in the sky and to give it a bit more saturation.

I can't even attempt to write a how to for this kinda thing cause basically sk66 is right, find a great scene and shoot it. I can however note a few things that make it catch ones eye ...

1. Great light in the right place at the right time. I would guess the photographer knew this.
2. Interesting sky in an interesting pose.
3. The prominent colors of blue and orange are compliments on the color wheel. Peoples eyes tend to like compliments. The photographer played that up pretty well.
4. The photographer seemed to know when to say when in PP. It may be on the edge but is reasonably realistic and sometimes that helps it connect.

If I had to take a stab at what the photographer did in post, I would guess they took advantage of the luminance sliders and deepened the blues, while brightening the oranges. They may have also upped the saturation a bit and worked with levels and blacks.

I am ONLY GUESSING though. Have you considered contacting the photographer to ask? Couldn't hurt to try. Then you would get a real answer.

Thanks Karen and others for your answers.
Yes i wrote a comment below the image in the link to ask the photographer how is got these so beautiful colors and blue sky.

For my part, i try to use a polariser in 90° from the sun and with the maximum setup for it, but the blue never comes so deep.

Gilles =)

What you have to remember is that away from the coast of Australia (and this is 1150km+ from the coast), clear blue skies are considered normal and getting that look can be very easy, depending on the direction you are looking. No pollution (except for dust storms) and no haze.
