Default How do I create a photo blend?

Hello fellow DPS forumers. I have a great image in mind, I just don't know how to recreate it. The image is as follows:

I want to set my camera up on my tripod on my back patio. I would set my camera on a timer and stand back in the yard doing a Y for YMCA. Then take another one closer to the camera doing the M. Same thing for C and A, just getting closer to the camera.

If my camera had been in one spot this entire time, would it be possible to put all those photos together and blend them into one photo so it appears that I have four of me doing the YMCA?

I'm sort of trying to recreate this image:

Please help!

There are probably those here much more knowledgeable than I, but I would do it by rendering the images, and layering. Each pic of you would be a rendering on a transparent background. You would pick your base picture background and build from that point using your rendered pics and layers. Since the layers are transparent you don't see the layer background, only the rendering of your pics. Place them in the order you want per layer until they finish the spelled out name.

Just select the part of an image that contains you and and paste it into the back ground image as a new layer.
Repeat until you have all the pics of you.
Adjust the layers if needed
Flatten the image.

I asked the same question, and got some really good answers, over on photo.stackexchange.com:

I was able to follow the top answer (the one I accepted) with decent results. I'll grab one of my results and attach later if you're interested.

Search for the term "multiplicity" here and you should find a few threads with other examples and probably some tutorials about how to do it.

Thank you everyone for your replies. IABoomer, I'll be sure to search the forums for "multiplicity", thank you for that tip.

As for everyone else, your suggestions are very helpful. When done with the photo, I'll try and upload it to this thread for some critiquing.

Thank you all again!
