I think you do have to be wary of the typical shot of an often shot landscape.
Going for the unpredictable, and looking for the twist is the way to go (in my mind) for landscape, avoiding the postcard shot.
Love the thread!

No! I do not think that landscape photography, painting or any other art form is dead or will ever go out of style. The simple reason is that Nature is always different from moment to moment, day to day, season to season, year to year.

Many if not most people never get bored with Nature. Each photograph or painting of the same place is always different because of differing weather conditions, exposures, PS processing, different mediums, etc. That is why the “same” view will appeal to one person and not another.

Those who are “bored” with the natural world should move on to something else, like photographing weddings or seniors or babies over and over and over again. Oh, wait! Those are different each time as well.

Getting bored is a matter of mindset. There is always something different, something to be enjoyed and photographed from a new angle.

Boring people tend to be bored. Who wants to be one of those?

Just my $0.02.

I'm an amateur photographer. I shoot landscapes because I like to get away from the city.

Its a chance for me to get away from my daily grind in the world of IT and spend some time in nature with my partner who likes to hike, There is a sense of romance spending time with your loved one when you view some of nature's most amazing creations either in the sun's very first or last rays. Its not merely being there and doing that - but being there at the right time, and making and capturing a memory.

And who knows - if you're lucky, maybe someone else might appreciate the memory you created and would like to hang it up on their wall... that's just a bonus. The real charm for me is being able to do something I love, and with someone whom I love.

Call me corny and cheesy if you will....
