Default The Tower and the Needle-Revised

Hiyas,

I picked out two more images from yesterdays outing. They are related in the visual sense and the second holds sentimental meaning for me.

This is a water tower at the Robert Moses State park on Fire Island..I share many photos from Fire Island, it's a barrier beach off the south shore of Long Island. Everything I've shared from the place has been on the eastern end which is closer to my home, but yesterday I took a ride to the western side.

IMG_9484

It's really tall and is in the middle of a traffic circle, it has a twin at Jone's beach which I'm sure I will share one day ( it's under repair and might make an interesting shot too )

The next photo is the US Coast Guard's Search and Rescue Station on Fire Island, I spent the last eight months of my time in the Guard here, the tower you see makes the water Tower in the shot above look tiny.

I have alot of stories from my time at the station, but one of the most exciting is when a I was on a 44' heavy weather rescue boat and we rolled it over in the Inlet during a storm with 30 foot seas.

It was a self righting and self bailing vessel and there were only minor injuries, we returned to the station and a Helo was sent out to aid the fishing boat we were on our way out to help.

Thanks for taking a look,

Vin

I D/L'd some photos of a 44' boat in action and the stern of the one I rolled over in. I felt like I cut you viewers a little short by talking about it and not showing, the photos in the collage are not mine but available on the net.

thanks again, hope the bottom photo helps a little.

Wow, Vin! What an amazing story about your ship rolling over. I cant imagine no one getting hurt in that one. Both those towers are amazing.

Normally I'd say size isn't everything, but here I'd be wrong.
Size is definately everything, especially when managing the water supply and saving lives.
Great commentary, great previous profession and great pictures Vin

Hi Vin - like your other past posts, I am always fascinated by a story tied in with your images ... this one is no exception ... that first tower, can anyone go to the top of it? .. I bet you get a nice view from up there ... and I'm glad you show us a glimpse of where you once spend your military life .... very well presented as always

Awesome shots Vin! The water tower is unique, I've never seen one like that before. I remember you shared a picture of the rescue vessel you served on didn't you? Anyways, I really like these images. The antenna tower whoaaa nellie! I'm a ham radio buff and that tower is REALLY tall. Thanks for sharing these with us/me.

Great Set Vin! the 1st tower is really well captured! I was there on Fire Island in 1989, What a wonderful place, especially during the week when it's not so crowded! Lot's of Photo ops there.
Looking forward to more of this series.
Thanks for sharing these
Michael.
