Default Capping/Pinning Ceremony:Student Nurses

Last December 7, I attended our school's capping and pinning ceremony for student nurses in their 2nd level. It is another stage in their preparation to be professional nurses. These are all portraits. The first was actually their teacher who played the role of Florence Nightingale. The other three were among those given their caps, pins and lamps.

I don't have an external flash so I just used ISO1600 to compensate for the dim light that made the images grainy.

Thanks for looking.

Now this touches my heart -- since I'm an RN it is very special to me to see young nurses coming into the profession. When I graduated, we did have a pinning ceremony, but no caps -- those are almost never seen anymore in this part of the US. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful photos, and I wish these new nurses the very best in their challenging and rewarding calling.

Hello Hayward. This was done at Don Bosco in Makati City; it is a catholic church. We prepare them for their 'vocation' as health care providers.

I am happy this means something to you. Their guest speaker said that RN means not only 'registered nurse' but also 'responsible nurse'. These students have to learn the seriousness and solemnity of their duty eraly that is why it had to be done in their 2nd level.

Nice captures, Rick. I have a feeling for the emotion behind the ceremony now, thanks to your shots.

A great profession, and great pictures capturing a great occasion in the careers of these students, and I like them all.
Seasons greetings Rick, a very happy Christmas to you and your family

Rarely, have I seen this word "vocation"--literal calling---used more aptly! It makes me wonder when the call to this profession began? When they were playing nurse with their dolls? GI Joes? Whenever it began, I love how that calling is honored in this ceremony. Look at their solemn faces! These are wonderful photos, Rick. What a pleasure to see them.

Hello Mike. I was like an extra unofficial photographer then. They just couldn't stop me. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Lindy,

Thanks for your nice comment. Yes they were in solemn mode/mood until I started to come near where they were and then...

I told them I will post this on FB and DPS.

Happy Holidays!
