Default Is it possible to create an obsession?

A while back when I first started poking around here I had come across an article about finding an 'obsession'. I believe the author of the article had been 'obsessed' with shooing Converse All-Stars or Chucks. Since that day I have thought about and looked around for something to 'obsess' about. Something that I could shoot wherever I am, and could create a unique diverse collection of photos. That is how fire hydrants came into my life. While visiting a friend in Baltimore it came to me. They are everywhere, they come in so many different shapes and colors and are always situated in their own unique environment. So I have just recently started my 'obsession' with fire hydrants, here are a few.

I think you've made a good choice so far for your obsession.

I really like the angle in the third shot.

What a great idea! They are all really good, but I am drawn to the 2nd one myself. The lighting is great. It provoke's a certain feeling with it that I can't quite put my finger on....but I really like it.

Thanks, they are really fun to practice lighting on. They shape of the hydrants almost seem human to me.

Nice shots, a good idea for an 'obsession'.
Don't come to Europe though, you won't find any here!

Really? I was there in 2001, obviously before my 'obsession'.
I'll have to go back and check my old pictures(not that I don't believe you).
Do you know why?

Well I've lived all my life in England and we definitely don't have them there, haven't seen any since I've been in Madrid and don't recall ever seeing one on my trips round Europe, so I'm pretty sure we don't. They've always seemed very 'American' to me!
Why? I have no idea...I guess we have a different system

Great shots. Another reminder that excellent photos are there waiting to be taken. Thanks,

Phil

A really cool thread! You might not believe this, but about a month ago I came to notice more and more how different all these fire hydrants are and how it might be cool to capture them in different ways. You've done a million times better a job than I ever could. I love them all!
