Default Time to Remember

French Poppy

A million blood red poppies fell slowly to the floor
And I heard a million voices that I had heard before
Calling from a foreign field, the earth, the sea, the sky
Telling all the story of why they had to die.

Liberty and freedom, motherland and home
These are words to cherish but the dead lie deathly prone.
Have we learned the lesson, all they gave was it in vain?
Is this a better world we live in built upon their pain?

A million blood red poppies, remember them and pray
They gave their tomorrow that we might have this day
We must strive to greater effort for peace and goodwill to reign
Never should one single poppy fall to the floor again.

When we came back from the war the banners and flags hung on everyone's door.
We danced and we sang in the street and the church bells rang.
But burning in my heart, my memory lingers on of the gunners dying words on the intercom.

To friends and heroes

Good picture/ post Andrew, and if I may add to your excellent picture

poppies

Rememberance Sunday. Thanks to all who have protected us and to those who continue, and special tributes to those who we've lost.

Lovely photo.

Thank you Andrew for great shot and words. A thank you to these brave men is so insufficient. We owe them so much, but sadly mans inability to learn from past experiences will put the final line of your poem into question. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. Paul

Thank you all for acknowledging what we owe our forebears. What makes my picture even more poignant is the fact it was taken in the actual fields of Northern France.
