Default Using ChromaKey Green Screen

Was playing around with one of my Sunday model shoot shots. It was done at a station with ChromaKey Green Screen background. I have not done any ChromaKey shooting before, let alone editing. I took a recent shot I took in Hawaii and added it to the background. It's not exactly perfect but I'm happy with this first crack at ChromaKey editing.

Original with Green Screen background:

Shot of mine from Hawaii:
HawaiiDayFive

The result putting the Hawaii shot over the green screen:

Thanks Hayward. And, no I don't work at a TV station. But I did do graduate work at American University in TV News broadcasting and that's where I first learned about ChromaKey.

On Sunday during the model shoot I attended, they had one shooting station in the studio set up with ChromaKey and that's where I got my shot of the model. I took the Hawaii shot during my recent vacation. Just a matter of marrying the two.

I did my work in PhotoShop CS4 and used a tutorial I found on YouTube that help me through the basics of the process. During the post I did some expanding and feathering of my selection before deleting the background to bring up the Hawaii shot. It was interesting and fun.

Interesting, Rusty. So green screens work with stills, too. Cool! Nice work! Thanks for sharing.

Is there anyway you can make her hair less transparent if you look closely in the back of her hair you can see the ocean. I've been wondering if chromakey works better then just carefully cutting the person out, what are the advantages to just using a white background for instance?

I saw that transparency too but kind of like it. Not sure if chroma-key works better but I'm sure you can use just a white background. When doing my selection I selected a color range, so unless there is a lot of white in the subject then I'm sure white will work well too.

Like I said, this is my first work ever with this so I'm still undergoing a learning curve. I also understand that there is software available that is strictly for working with chroma-key backgrounds. But I'm trying to do this work in PhotoShop.

Yeah I'm just starting to learn adding backgrounds as well, I like this one and I don't think the hair transperancy hurts it that bad just something that caught m eye. Actual my thread self portraita on page 1 has my first added background as well. My biggest problem so far has been when cutting out people with hair I can't keep it looking natural.

Yeah, you almost need to have the models hair made up with a lot of hairspray and almost a helmet-head. That's what I'm running into too. I'm happy with how this shot turned out but I've got others of her with the green screen and there is lots of errant hair strands.
