Smile Just getting the hang of things.....

Hi there everyone,

Really enjoying all the posts, comments and tutes, so I thought I better post a thread myself and get into the community spirit

I have just started out in dSLR photography and although I have hundreds of photos taken with my trusty fuji finepix f30 over the last 4 years, I'd like to share a few from the new toy, a pentax k7, and get a few comments. Not quite up to having them tore apart on a critque thread yet but if there is constructive or destructive input I'll happily take it on the chin!

P.S is it better to embed the images in the message or add them as thumbnail attachments?

Sorry Deb had some issues on whether to attache or to embed the images, took me a little while to figure out what I was doing!

Thanks for the welcome Michele, I wont take offense to the Aussie comment as I'm actually from NZ but living in Aus now, with the picture of the loo I can understand who this mistake could be made, ha ha.

Very nice photos! I like those of isolated views and tight cropping that would normally be lost in a wider view.

As to embedding or attaching, to me neither is the better choice. The images often come out very small and low resolution. Using Flickr (or a similar service) correctly lets us see a larger image, even when kept below the 800 pixel larger dimension limit and we can see the EXIF data to gain insight into how the photo was made and how to better comment on its qualities.

Just got on to Flickr. The K7 is very mega pixel heavy and so its not practical to upload the full images (the size of each image is between 5-6mb and thats shooting 3star rated jpeg files, not raw) When resizing the images for flickr what is the best pixel ratio. I have most photo files down to a longest length of 900pixels.

Love the loo! All of the images look great.

As for sizing, the forum standard is 800 pix on the longest side. The Flickr medium image size is usually the best to use for posting.

Looking forward to more great photos!
