Default evolution of a photograph

You must first find a spot that might hold some potential....doesn't look particularly inviting.....essentially weeds blocking access to the pool below the dam.....let's drive over the bridge and take a closer look

DSC_1281

We are now 100 feet closer than the previous shot are looking at the brush from the roadside out of my car window. I notice that there are some cattails and some thistles....might go for a silhouette shot. I think that I'll park here and get a little closer.

DSC_1282

This will contain decent enough material on its own.....so I'll compose just so and see how it goes.....a few more here and there and oh my gosh, gotta get back to work!

DSC_0977

Taking a larger look on screen after work....hmm, I like it but let's try a crop here and see what a little darkening will do. oooooh, that's cool......I think I'll save this and post this and see what my buddies on DPS think about this. They're probably wondering where in the world I find my "material". Hope this further inspires you all to look in the nooks and crannies of our surroundings for the diamonds in the rough.....looking in not so obvious places and catching light at the most opportune times.

two thistles

I am really impressed with the final result...the colour pops against the dark background. Its amazing what we can find it we only take the time to look.

Great story line and the final photo version really stands out. I also notice that in photo two there is a Blue Heron in the top right along the shoreline, there's another photo opportunity.

It's official. You've gone round the photographic bend and are incurable. Incurably creative, incurably curious and incurably...uh...cute...sorry...I was on a "C" roll. Very nice PP work and nicely presented!

I could have done with an article like this several years ago when I first picked up a film camera.
This is excellent for newcomers and the more experienced, the latter sometimes just taking for granted the process of selecting a potential location.
Patrick you have an easy to understand style of writing and together with your excellent pictures you've created chapter 1 of a simple and useful photographic guide, I like it.
