Default Hiking up river

bought a backpack today ! .. now instead of having to lug around a large camera bag with a very uncomforable shoulder strap, I have a pack to put all the stuff in and hike in comfort.

I'll have to take a shot of it soon and show what I got.. in anycase, since most of the morning was spent driving to the camera store and back and I was not going out shooting in 90+ heat,, I waited until late afternoon and took a ride..

Scouting out areas for the ongoing photographing an Osprey actually fishing, I hiked about 2 miles into the woods along the river ( used to be a literal pain in the neck with the old gear bag, this was a pleasure ) .. across the river I spotted an Egret, decided to take a break from walking and shoot some of it fishing

Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 800 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

and then the strike.. would have preferred more detail.. but I was attemping to get it's beak in the water... I ended up getting his whole head dunked and he missed the fish

the river bank was so dark .. a little more contrast that I wanted , I asked him to move, but they don't listen.

but I was not there for Egrets.. I want to continue with the Osprey as long as I can, I was bummed out when they flew the nest and I as I've said before, I'm not done with them yet !

So after about two miles up the river it widens out, since all I've ever seen them eat is pike and trout, it is here I belive I have a chance to catch them fishing.. I was delighted in finding a few perched in trees overhanging the river...
this adult was chirping and screeching every few minutes.. I don't know where it's offspring was, this was dense woods... my only clear view was out along the river

as I moved up looking for good spots to set up ( i'm comming back to this area in the early morning ) I rounded a bend and found another .. a juvenile who was watching the water intently ..

More to come during summer vacation week and a new backpack to lug around my gear..

as always thanks for taking a look

Vin

Again, you have been getting some nice close ups there......It is great to be able to find what you are looking for. A camera backpack is on my wishlist for Christmas.....I think that it would be great, plus it is not readily obvious that you are lugging around alot of expensive equipment and would be a theft deterrent

Once agian you've created some awesome bird photos Vin. I especially like the egret dunking his head in the water for a snack. That is oh-so-cool. Nice work!

Vin! We are on-line at the same time! Hello and how are you?

So...end of a l-o-n-g day, the house is pretty quiet except for the sound of my own voice going "Oh my goodness!" at your first shot. What elegance and grace. What symmetry and balance composition. I repeat: "Oh my goodness!". I'm going to have to come back to your other shots. I got hijacked by beauty!

Great shot Vin, the 1st is a classic. and the young Osprey is really nice as well. Your really getting good with the 100-400mm lens. I know what you mean about the back pack, I bought the Kata 3 in 1 sling back pack and I love it. I can carry my 150 - 500mm sigma in the top and still carry my camera with 3 lenses, my extenders and various other stuff and it's a pleasure to carry. Good investment. the only thing I need to get is the Tripod attachment.
Thanks for Sharing these
Michael.

Superb pictures.

I particularly like the third one, and the idea of a camera back pack is one that had never occured to me. However I intend to go and look at some, with a view to buying one. Like you I hate having to lug a bulky camera bag around when I go out with my camera.
