Default Venting!!! Needs some love!

I'm a photojournalist/reporter for a newspaper. Soooo, I took this photo for a coworkers story to be featured on the front page. I LOVE how this turned out, not to mention having to wait for an hour and a half to get the lighting where I wanted it...so what does my editor do? He is going to crop it to zoom in on the gentleman in the photo!

I come to you, fellow photographers, to cheer me up. Don't yall think cropping the photo will ruin it????

Thanks for listening...and looking!!

Dear Cherrygirl,

Technically speaking your capture is really good. The lighting is just perfect. The sky is dark blue and dramatic. But, not too dark. Just perfect! The subject is well illuminated. The colors are crisp and the overall composition, very pleasing. If your editor wants a picture featuring the details on the face of your subject, probably you could add a portrait ( Yea: 4x4 Passport photo, the editor would be pleased with that, don't forget to show the right ear). If at all crop, from the bottom not the sky, PPPPPLLEASSSEEEE!

So here I stand in support of your picture. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you and what is going to happen with your picture.

All best wishes.

PS. if this is a sample of your work I'd really like to see more. Keep them coming and don't forget to coment and critique the work of you peers, there is always room for learning and improvement.

Why on earth would someone want to crop this?
If my newspaper had shots like this, I would subscribe.
Great job. I LOVE it.

Sorry cherrygirl, but i think if you take an inch off the bottom it looks even better( the converging lines make me look at the # above the door), but that is as far as i would go. Great shot either way. I like it.

Cherrygirl, that is an awesome photo and your hard work has paid off with a great image. I don't know what the story is about, so I don't know how well your picture relates to the story (I would bet it relates very well), but it doesn't show much of the gentleman's details. However, that being said, if you crop it, you'll have a man posed between an L and a T and what story does that tell? I fear your best work is going to be left on the cutting room floor. Editors--what idiots!!

Anyway, I love your image and hope you'll be posting more of them here.

I agree with Primetime. You might be able to compromise with the editor by letting him crop a little off the bottom. If he feels the need to do more cutting tell him to go get a haircut. It's a great shot.

You guys made me feel so much better and that I'm not crazy! Just for info the story is about the company, which is called Walton Signage, and their growth. To add salt to my wound, my editor didn't even tell me good job!! I need a beer....

I do wish I had the guts to tell my editor to get a hair cut instead of cutting my photo! I love that!!!

If your editor wanted a Portrait, why didn't he just ask for one. He's going to ruin a Great shot. I think I'd add the inset portrait for the publication and not ruin the picture if I were your editor.
Great Shot
Michael.
