Default A friendly hornet

There were two of these sitting right next to each other under the shade of some bushes. It was an overcast day and they were being suprisingly still. There were very few other bugs out that day so I guess they were bored and couldn't find anything to hunt.

I came back the next day and the two hornets were very much in predator mode. Zooming around much faster than their seemingly bulky bodies should fly.

Nice and sharp images. I'd hate to be on the business end of that stinger!

I appreciate your being that brave. I would never get that close for a photo. Now I have a close up of what I got stung by. Thanks, Angella

Hornets are only friendly for one reason and that's why I would never get that close. Nice work on your part.

Can i ask which lense and other equipment do you use to take this picture? The picture is very sharp that it make me wonder what of lense and equipment you used.

The lens is a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro, I had a SB-600 shoe mounted with an omni bounce cover. I stopped my lens down to f/11 and my shutter to 1/250 and let me flash compensate for the darkness. Normally I do the same on f/22 for extreme close ups, thats the only way to get the sharpness.

It was a little freaky. I went back to the sames spot about an hour ago and there were a dozen or more hornets and fights for territory were frequent I couldn't get nearly as close as I did with these. I need to get a longer lens because I know eventually they might get pissy
