Default Pink sunset

Looked out my window yesterday evening & could see this amazing sunset appearing so grabbed my camera and run - unfortunately I learnt 2 important things - first I need to get a tripod and secondly not to get so excited that I forget to check any of my settings!

I know this isn't a critique section but if anyone wants to tell me what sort of settings would have been best that would be great. I guess it was about 9pm the sun was below the horizon (buildings) and it was still light and not dark enough when on auto to bring the flash on - although it was about 15 minutes later

Thanks

HI Sheldon. These are great captures, don't be too hard on yourself. They really give the feel for the time of day. The colours are great too. I usually just work with aperture, if that doesnt't work, as you say, use a tripod and play with shutter speeds. You did a great job Sheldon. I love these captures.

Jake.

Try underexposing the shot a little if you have a dslr. If a point and shoot, point at brightest part of the sky and press shutter halfway and then lower to recompose and shoot. This also underexposes a little. You could probably pp this to get the effect.....using your darkness, saturation and contrast sliders in any basic editor.....very basic stuff. I am learning all of the time but this has worked for me and there may be better methods.....The shots are fine to me though.....I suspect that they don't show what your mind's eye saw?

I took about 30 and actually the best (colour wise) were badly out of focus due to shutter speed. You are right they don't represent my memory of what I saw. I think I should definitely have changed my ISO from 200 to 400 or maybe even higher. saying that I still like them
