Default Sony / Pocket wizard help *Please*

Hey guys,

I just purchased my first pocket wizard for my A700, I' am having two problems. 1. the pocket wizard can't attach to the camera, does anyone know of what hotshoe adaptor I need for this it work? My 2nd question, I purchased an extrenal flash tripod, however it only has a screw top to it, and my extrenal flash doesn't have a screw hole bottom, is their a special adaptor for that as well, and if so, do you know which one I'll need?

I did purchase a hot shoe adaptor however it's the wrong one, it's the same set up as the top of my A700, where the flash slides into place. so clearly I'm at a total loss on what to get.

Thanks in advance.

1) if the PW transmitter doesn't have a hot shoe mount then a pc flash sync to 1/8" mini plug
2) a flash shoe with 1/4" 20tpi female

HI, I also have the Sony 700 and use pw's. The adaptor that will attach to your hot shoe can be found here. Gadget Infinity :: Digital Camera :: Hot Shoe Adapter :: 4-pin FS-1100 Hot Shoe Adapter for Konica Minolta / Sony Alpha camera. You could also just plug the PW into the the pc sync output on the left side of the camera and let the PW Just hang there.

For question 2. If you look in the little case that came with your flash there should be a small plastic stand that will accept the flash. There is a screw hole in the bottom of it to mount the flash onto a stand.

Good Luck and let me know if all this works for you.

Thanks Bob. I ended up purchased the sony adapter, FA-HS1AM | Hot Shoe Adaptor| Sony | SonyStyle USA

However I still can't get the PW Plus II to fire the flash. I' am assuming I' am still missing a step maybe I need to get another attachment? I would love to know what/how you have yours set up in order for it to trigger.

And thanks, I didn't think about that stand for the tripod, thank you, that worked great.

Did you check that your PWs are set to the same channel? And that the one on the hotshoe is set to send, while the one on the flash is set to receive?

Well I just learned that I need two pocket wizard II, one for the flash and one for the camera. So I have that part now, however I' am running into another problem. If I plug the PW to my Sony 42 flash, well there is no spot to plug the falsh to the PW, if I get an adapter then I won't be able to use the stand that came with the flash. Do I need two adapters then?

Yup, you're going to need an adapter for the flash as well, going the other way (Sony/Minolta on the top, iso standard on the bottom). This FlashZebra adapter might be worthwhile, since it does the hotshoe adapting, as well as adding a PC port.

I'm not sure I understand what kind of stand you have, but most of the time, a speedlight flash is attached to a lightstand via an umbrella swivel.

Um, you do know that you can spend considerably less on radio triggers than getting PocketWizards right off the bat, right? Cybersyncs are just as reliable from all reports and cost about $120 for a tx/rx pair, while Cactus V4s are less reliable, but it's $40 for a tx/rx set. PocketWizards are the gold standard, but for hobbyist use, they can be some serious overkill.

for others who might be following this thread besides the triggers Ink mentions, check out the JrX from radiopopper. they have been working factastic for me and *bonus* for those with ABs the JRxs can control your light output from the camera transmitter...
