Default B/W, or Color?

Over the weekend my daughter and her family came in to visit from Cincinnati, and wanted us to take some family photos of her, and her family. After doing a bunch of "classic" family poses, my wife and I setup this more casual, fun composition. We setup in a shady area of the yard, and used our SB800 mounted on camera to bounce fill light off a large white reflector which was setup at camera right. I also PP'd a B/W version, and now I'm kind of torn over which one I like better. Thanks for viewing and sharing your comments.

I only recently started dabbling with black and white. I'm finding that it can give a photo such a different feel... kind of amazing how something so simple can do that.

Having said that, I really prefer the coloured one. It just seems so much more dramatic in colour. The brightness/colour of the folliage behind them just seems to make the whole picture "pop".

B&W vs. colour question aside: I really like the composition and feel of this picture... casual but posed at the same time. Wonderful job! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for viewing and your comments. I agree, B/W photos take on a totally different feel, and some photos work great in B/W, while others just have to be color...occasionaly, you will get one that works either way

I see you have a pair of Canon 20D's...we also have one. What was changed when they went to the 20Da?

I like the B&W better but would try to darken the background flowers etc in it as they a bit noisy in the pic tone them down a touch and will be great

looks way better like that I would suggest maybe softening the focus on the back ground maybe using a slight Gaussan Blur ?
