Default Does this effect work?

I can't decide honestly. Does the blur work? Or no?
I wanted to show the little guy's energy.

Mostly I'm just bored at work and messing around

Heh, not quite what you were going for, but when I see that I think, "Oh god it's almost hay fever season".

This is really cool. I like how you've managed to keep the little boy in focus. Nice job.

It makes me feel a bit motion sick! LOL
So I guess you managed to capture and create movement.

Hi! Nice shot.
Could you give any advice on how to take photos in a similar style to this, or is it a post production effect?

Thanks

Yeah, I had to totally close it out after about 15 minutes. I was getting woozy!

Gareth, I used photoshop. I'll try to find the link to the tutorial I used. But if you'll just google "Blur effect- photoshop," you should find something along these lines.

Here's how I did it

First, I opened the image I wanted to use in Photoshop.

Then, I hit Control + J to make a copy of that layer. (Command J on Mac).

I then went up to "Filter" ---> "Blur" ----> "Radial Blur."

On the Radial Blur Menu, I chose "Zoom" so that the effect "zooms" in toward him instead of the "Spin" effect, which would, as the name implies, spin around him.

Then, I moved the grid on that menu over a bit so it centers on my little friend.

Hit Ok, and Voila, you have a blur.

Now, to make your subject (my little friend, in this case) clear, I chose the eraser tool and started erasing the blur over him. As you erase, he comes into focus.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm thinking... this is the view from the large rabid dog that just jumped your fence.

Kinda morbid... I know. But the blur makes him seem like a target.

I'm afraid I will have to agree with Sandman here.

I like the effect and the photograph but I don't think it achieves the desired effect of showing the little guy's energy. I would have expected a blur on him with the rest fixed to make it work.
