Default Camera Raw Photoshop Question

This might be a stupid question but I am wondering if there is a way to bring up the Camera Raw screen in Photoshop after the file has already been opened.

The reason being, I want to run Noise Ninja first, then make edits. Is there a way to re-open the Camera Raw screen? I can't seem to find it anywhere in the menu. Sorry if I am being a newbie!

Neil

You can open TIFF and JPEG files in camera raw from Photoshop. Just choose the "open as..." comand and select raw from the file type menu.

Would have to question why you would want to though? The photo won't be the origainl RAW file anymore and noise reduction and sharpening are normally the last editing step.

Thanks Fletch. It doesn't seem to want to open my files using your method. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

From my understanding, Noise Ninja should be run as early in the PP stage as possible. I've tested this theory and noticed a notable difference in noise if I send the RAW through NN first vs. editing then sending through NN.

There are two methods of noise reduction, input NR and output NR.

Input NR is done on the raw file, either in camera on in raw development software. This will combat any noise generated in camera or due to changes made to the raw processing such as bumping exposure and is done by setting the parameters used to convert the sensor data into an image file such as a TIFF or JPEG.

Output NR is done to an image file and is removing any noise in the final image. It will remove noise that is either left over after the raw conversion or generated as part of the editing process. Noise Ninja is output sharpening.

If you want to use Noise Ninja as early as possible in the editing process then the earliest this should be done is after the raw file has been converted to an image file. Once you have converted to an image file all of the raw settings are baked in. You can't change them. Therefore opening an image file in ACR just allows you to edit using the raw interface but does not make changes to the raw conversion settings. Making changes in ACR can also generate noise so the NR should be done after this.

I see. I had read somewhere that NN should be used as early as possible in the processing stage. I've noticed that when I use NN immediately, the results are more dramatic.

Anyway, I appreciate your feedback. If it is indeed output, it makes it a lot easier for me.
