Default Mpix-I need ot know something if you use this

I was going ot try Mpix on for size and see how it works since i've heard good things about it, but I'm just have a question or two.

1. I post edit my images, most of them anyways whether it's really giving it a go or just simply boosting the color a little. When I order through Mpix is it going to come back looking different than the image I sent in? If I send it in looking one way in which I edited will they change it to what they think is right?

2. Do you think I should order that kit that checks to see if my computer is calibrated to their printer?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY HELP!!!!!!!!!! I'm stressin here folks!

If your monitor is properly calibrated the prints should look just like they do on your screen. They won't look exactly the same given the differences between backlit displays and ink on paper but you shouldn't notice any significant differences. The only problem I've had with mpix, and it's something I've heard from others, is that prints have come back darker than expected. I like my LCDs to be bright, so it's just a matter of adjusting the brightness properly when preparing images before uploading.

The only other thing you may encounter is aspect ratios. Most digital cameras create images with a 4x3 aspect ratio. If you print a 5x7 or 8x10 you'll have to crop the image before printing, but you'll have the option of customizing the crop before you order.

I'm not sure about the calibration kit, but if it's expensive, I'd just order a few test prints to see how they compare to what you see on your monitor.

1. The basic color correction which mpix offers is just that -- basic color correction. They'll perhaps make things "pop" a little more, but nothing major. Mpix does offer more advanced retouching of photos, but you have to pay for it, and it's still pretty basic (redeye correction, spot removal, etc.)

2. Some people swear by color calibration kits, but personally I wouldn't buy one from mpix. You can get decent ones at other online stores. Generally speaking, if you've calibrated your monitor once, you will be fine thereafter. I have never had color-matching problems with mpix.

Thanks. Do you have any suggestions on what other online stores would be good to look at for a calibration kit? I would like to do this just to make sure i'm good to go. I know when i print off my printer they come out darker which i do not like. Also this cropping thing now if I order a bigger size I have to crop an image again?? I mean is there any place else that does a great job where I can just send my image in and not have to mess with this? Or is every place like this?
