I've noticed that pictures tend to look more professional when they have borders around them.
Who here hangs up a photo on their wall? Just a photo. Just a photo, and a thumbtack. Forget the frame! No wooden/metal/plastic frame. Just a photo. Not done much, huh? So online, many of the pictures you see have 'frames' around them. Sometimes they are just a black border. Or a thin grey line, and then a black border... or colors that complement the pictures inside of them. http://i37.tinypic.com/m8h5py.jpg So maybe not an exceptional picture, or even an exceptional example. But I'd seen someone on the forum post an image where it's frame was, as far as I could tell, ITSELF. Only zoomed in and blurred. I would really like to hear some advice on how I could 'frame' my photos online. And some beautiful examples of creative methods would be welcome as well! |

Simple enough in most editors.
Duplicate the image layer, re-size that layer (using the transform tool) to the smaller image size. Blur background layer. Either add a white stroke to the "top" image or simply add a white box on a separate layer between the two image layers.

If you want to just frame your photos for display on Flickr, you can use picnik. There's many great framing options. Most of them are free and it's completely integrated with flickr. You can get to picnik from flickr by clicking the "edit" button when displaying your photo. Picnik can also be used without flickr by going to Picnik - Photo editing the easy way, online in your browser. Hope this helps.

If you're using Photoshop, in the Actions pallet there are some frames you can use and you can search the web for other frame actions too.
