Default What am I doing wrong??

As the title says - I hope someone can advise

I have today ventured and took some pics in RAW format Nikon D60 - can view on laptop in RAW- using Nikin software - when i try to use convert to JPEg so I can edit in photoshop the pics get tinted in neon colours
What have I done? It's no biggie as was just playing about but I thought Id try RAW as it was suggested as the best format
Can anyone advise please?
Jackie

Have you moved the white balance slider? I don't know the Nikon software but that would give the picture some funky colours.

No - I havent changed anything I just used the ViewNX software that came with the camera to download the RAW files as adobe photoshop wont recognise this type of file

They are OK to view in RAW its just when I try to change the format?

change format?

how are you changing the format?

normally all you do is opne the RAW file, move sliders to suit.. then click "open" and it automatically creates a jpeg and goes into photoshop.

...but i dont use View NX.. i'd assume it wouldnt be hugely different

The files/pics download into ViewNX then on top tool bar is a button 'convert' when i click that it gives choice of Tif or JPEG I click JPEG It appears to go through process then either saves with colour distiortions all over pics or not at all
Am looking at Photoshop Elements 5 to find a download for RAW formats but cant find that either

Thanks for replies
Any other ideas!! Am getting frustrated x

You need Adobe Camera Raw version 4.4.1 to open D60 raw files. Lucky for you that works with PSE 5 and can be downloaded here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 4.4.1 update

Install that and try opening the RAW in PSE. Its should work fine then.
