Default A before in need of after suggestions

I was browsing around my photos and came across one that I took last year.

IMG_1984

I like the shot, but I'm not to keen on the fact that I can just make out the foreground fence that I had to shoot through. (two diagonal, hazy white strips)

I tried a few different methods to try and fix it using effects brushes but I usually end up with the reverse of the problem, where those areas end up too dark.

Soooo, I thought I'd see what suggestions that might come up here. Has anyone managed to fix a similar issue with a photo? If so, how did you manage it?

Hi, I took the liberty of trying to fix this in Corel Paint Shop Pro. I can post up the results if you don't mind my doing so.

Yes, please. I'd love to see it and know how you did it, thanks!

Okay, here it is. You will likely be able to see very quickly what I did. Basically, I increased the contrast levels of the entire image, and then went back and used the lasso select tool to select the remaining white areas. I then adjusted the contrast and brightness of these areas to match their surroundings. It kind of darkens the whole image, but it also sharpens it up a bit at the same time. This is just a quick fix, I did it in about three or four minutes. I'm sure if you spent some time with it you'd come up with a better image than what I did.

I'd say Jim did a pretty good job on this one...

There's still a bit of a ghost image, but with further tweaking it can pretty much be eliminated.

That looks really good! It's definitely better than I was able to do. Thanks!
