Default Black and White (again)

I may have the same problem but am not sure. I use Elements 8...

I have changed an image to Black & White in a different programme, on screen it shows B&W when I print it comes out sort of Sepia and no definative B&W's, I have tried 3 different printers. If I send it away to colour Labs it comes back B&W.

I am completly confused by this. Could it be that I have not converted the image properly or do I need some sort of image display adjuster or what as you can imagine this is very frustrating.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rex

what do you do? i have Photoshop elements and i go to the enhance menu and click convert to black and white once I've moved the sliders to where i like the image then i go over it with the desaturate brush and that works ( i had the same problem)
Hope that helps

Hi,
Many thanks for your response. Thought I may have got it wrong (I am a bit ancient) so I tried again as you described (although when I used the desaturate sponge nothing appears to happen) I got the BW print on screen and ended up with a Brownish tinted print.

Here is the method I use, with illustrations.

I use CS4 and I use a couple different methods for doing B&W depending on picture.

One way I'll do it is by using the channel mixer, and select monochrome and I'll either use the B&W presets that photoshop has and then go from there or I'll move the sliders until I get the conversion to my taste.

Another way I'll do it is by using photoshop's black and white layer and tweak the sliders to fit my taste

The third way which is what I usually do is use Silver EFX pro by Nik Software. It's a fantastic photoshop plug in that I absolutely love, I forget how much it costs but I think it's $150 but sometime it just depends on the picture and I'll try the other 2 methods as well just to see what works best for my photo.
